

Monsignor Edward Donohoe Feb. 20, 1925 - Oct. 20, 2016 Passed away peacefully at the age of 91 in Stockton, California, October 20, 2016, Monsignor Edward Donohoe. The son of the late Michael and Ellen Donohoe, he was born in Gortermone, Carrigallen, County Leitrim, Ireland on February 20, 1925. He graduated from St. John's College in Waterford in 1944 and was ordained to the priesthood June 18, 1950 for the Diocese of Sacramento, CA where he served as Associate Pastor of St. Patrick's Church, Sonora, 1950 to 1953; St. Bernard's Church, Eureka, 1953 to 1957; St. Patrick's Church, Angels Camp, 1957 to 1962. Incardinated into the newly formed Diocese of Stockton in 1962, he served as Pastor of St. Patrick's Church, Angels Camp, 1962 to 1980; St. Patrick's Church, Sonora, 1980 to 1981; St. Andrew's Church, San Andreas, 1981 to 1984; St. Michael's Church, Stockton, 1984 to 1995; Pastor Emeritus, St. Michael's Church, Stockton, 1995 to 2016. He is survived by his sister, Katie and brother, Jimmy in Ireland. Predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Andy, and sisters, Anna, Alice, Margaret and Julia. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Ethna and uncle of Colleen, Maureen, Andrew and Edward in Berkeley and San Bruno, Patricia, John and Michael in New York, Rosaleen in Louisiana, and many more nieces and nephews in Ireland. Monsignor Donohoe was a priest of excellent character and reputation who faithfully served the people of God for sixty-six years and was deeply loved by many people. His life was characterized by a great love of the Church, a deep prayer life, a commitment to his brother priests, constant availability to the people and a gentle and humble disposition. His dedication to others was reciprocated by lifelong friends in his time of need particularly in the last year. Like him, all loved and supported him unconditionally and humbly. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed especially by his family whom he loved deeply. DeYoung Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Donohoe family. Visitation will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California Street, Stockton, on Wednesday, October 26 from 10 am to 4 pm, and at St. Michael's Church from 5 pm to 7 pm followed by a vigil at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 5882 North Ashley Lane, Stockton, CA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 27 at 11 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Committal at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, Stockton, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or The Muscular Dystrophy Association .
