Philip Chester Tarne, 74, of Stockton, California, passed away on November 14th, 2023 peacefully in his sleep.
Philip was born on August 8th, 1949 to Chester and Marie Tarne in Chicago, IL. Philip moved around the west due to his father’s work and they eventually settled in Livermore, CA. He graduated from Livermore High School in 1967, and earned his BA from UC Davis in 1971. Philip was married to Linda Sue Gilbert on November 23rd, 1974 in Livermore, CA; they were happily married for 48 years.
Philip was a registered nurse and worked in the healthcare field for over 49 years. In recent years he worked as a home-health nurse and twice received the National Home Health Meritorious Service Medal. He was beloved by his many patients and colleagues. He was a life-long San Francisco Giants fan, and enjoyed watching them finally winning World Series titles 2010, 2012, and 2014. In his youth he formed a brotherly bond with his cousin Paul and shared many youthful adventures together. In his early adult days he was an avid cyclist and biked all over the Bay Area and Central Valley, and traveled through Europe. He also enjoyed family vacations with camping trips up to the Sierras, through Canada, and to the Grand Canyon. He loved listening to music, particularly the Beatles, and enjoyed playing folk songs on his guitar. In his later years he loved being a Papa (Grandpa) and reading stories to his grandchildren.
Philip is survived by his wife Linda, and his three children; Benjamin Tarne (Breeana Mitchell), Emily (Sebastian) Marlowe, and Laura Tarne; and his three grandchildren, Gavin Marlowe, Isaac Tarne, and Anthony Marlowe.
Philip is preceded in death by his parents Chester and Marie Tarne.
A celebration of remembrance will be held at 1pm on Friday, December 1, 2023 at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel.
