Robert "Bob" Larry Moreno was born on October 5, 1957, in Stockton, Ca to parents, Robert and Hortencia Moreno. After being diagnosed with cancer, Bob lost his hard-fought battle on Sunday, November 14, 2021.
Bob's memory will be kept alive by his son, Robert Moreno III (Gabriella) and daughter, Jaclyn Moreno-Siken (Jacob), wife of 31 years, Jan Moreno, sister-in-law, Chrissy Moreno, nephew, Richard M. Moreno (Cristina), neices, Miroslava Moreno (Jimmy) and Geena Moreno and his first grandchild, Belle Larissa, whose birth he missed by one month and four days. He also leaves behind his three bonus grandchildren, Nik, Journey and Livaya. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert Moreno, Sr., in 1995. He was joined in Heaven by his mother, Hortencia Moreno, on Nov 21, 2021 and by his only sibling and brother, Richard A. Moreno, on February 14, 2023.
A lifelong resident of Stockton, Bob attended Lottie Grunsky Elementary School, Stockton Junior High and Stagg High School. He attended Delta College as well as the Police Academy in Modesto and later went on to obtain his Bachelors Degree in Criminolgy. Bob became a cadet for the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office at the age of 20. He went on to become a Deputy, Detective, and Sergeant, and retired as a Lieutenant after 32 years of service. One highlight of his career was time spent as Sergeant of the Child Abuse/Sexual Assault/Elder Abuse (CASA) Unit. His unit was awarded the number one CASA Unit throughout California for two of the five years he served as Sergeant. He was passionate, dedicated and relentless in his quest to help victims, as were the men and women who were under his leadership. Those who knew and worked alongside Bob know
that his legacy in the department will never be forgotten. There will never be a unit quite like his because men like Bob are so rare. He was a man of integrity, compassion, great work ethic and desire to continue education to keep up with a changing society. Before the days of GPS, Bob would drive through the county memorizing streets and directions so as not to be ill-prepared while taking calls on patrol; an example of his dedication. Under his leadership, direction and encouragement, every detective who had the desire to promote later became Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captians and one eventually became San Joaquin County's first female Undersheriff. He would give his study materials away and freely share what information he could with those who asked.
As much as Bob enjoyed his fulfilling career with the sheriff's office, there was no greater love than the love for his family. A
man of great faith, God was first in his life, next to family. A lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Bob gave his children a solid foundation based on faith and a positive fear of God. He was a Proverbs 31 man who took his role as husband and father seriously. Our children learned to respect their elders, work to earn the things they desired and to not become a burden to society. Bob was an exemplary role model. Our son, who is in his tenth year as a San Joaquin County Sheriff's Deputy, was fortunate enough to have his father for the first eight years of his career. The knowledge he gained from his father is priceless. Bobby is so much like his dad. Our daughter, Jaclyn, who is a Deputy Public Guardian Investigator for San Joaquin County, inherited many of her father's traits - tenacity, assertiveness, ambition, determination, dependability - just to name a few. He would be incredibly proud of their accomplishments and work ethic today.
Bob enjoyed body building, weight lifting and running. His favorite place to run was Victory Park, where he has run thousands of miles. Bobby and his dad had great workouts at the gym and Jaclyn became a runner, like her father.
Bob enjoyed playing baseball and basketball, which he excelled in, and watching Monday Night Football with Uncle Lauro. He also loved reading, attending and volunteering at his church, and spending quality time with family and friends. He coached basketball when the kids were younger; and he went to every single one of their events whenever possible. Whether it be baseball, basketball, football, soccer, karate, gymnastics, band, robotics - he would show up in uniform if even just for a few minutes. His favorite baseball team was the Oakland
A's and, of course, his favorite player was Jose Canseco. His favorite vacation spot was Disneyland, where he took his family often, and his favorite ride was Pirates of the Caribbean.
Bob loved animals. He owned many dogs and a few cats during his lifetime and treated each one like a child. He could not stand to see an animal suffering in pain. Our two current dogs, Mayhem and Mulan, sat by our front door waiting for him to com home for the first few months after his death.
Bob was kind, caring and friendly to all who knew him. He had the best sense of humor and possessed the gift of gab. He was an extraordinary man and he lived an extraordinary life. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone who knew him.
A special thank you to our neice, Geena, who, in Bob's last days, kept us informed and updated us on his condition during his stay at St. Joseph's Hospital. We would also like to thank the many people whose expressions of love and sympathy helped to ease our pain in those first difficult months. Your prayers, kindness, donations, time and words of encouragement were and are so appreciated and we are grateful, thankful and humbled by each and every one of you.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.frisbiewarrencarrollmortuary.com for the Moreno family.
