

Ronnie is survived by his daughters, Renee Marengo and Lisa Smallie (Dennis), and their mother, Carol Hakeem, all of Stockton; grandchildren Stephen Baker of Stockton, Gregory Oliver (Misty) of Santa Cruz, Michael Oliver and Blake Smallie of Stockton; great granddaughter Jaidyn Oliver of Santa Cruz; nephew Peter Marengo IV (Brenda) and Denise Hawkins (Bob). Ronnie is preceded in death by his brother, Peter Marengo III, and their parents, Peter J. Marengo Jr. and Josephine Marengo.
Ronnie was born on August 10, 1932 in Stockton, California. He grew up with his family owning Katten & Marengo Department stores. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and Menlo College. He served in the army during the Korean War interpreting Morse Code transmissions. When he returned from the service he dove into operating Katten & Marengo. He married Miss Universe at age 22 for a short period and then married Miss Stockton, Carol Fillmore (Hakeem). They had two daughters, Renee and Lisa. Ron’s family enjoyed traveling to some extravagant places for business and entertaining many celebrities at their home.
Ron enjoyed golfing, spending time at the Stockton Golf and Country Club, sailing, whittling and varnishing. He loved telling stories of his life including one of his greatest adventures of sailing with a friend to the Marquesas Islands in 30 days alternating shifts every 4 hours.

A private family funeral was held at the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery where he was laid to rest in the Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of San Joaquin. The family would like to thank the caregivers Suzie Garcia, Santos Hurtado, Monica Lopez and the Hospice staff.
