Mr. Joe Sonny Paul Jarrett Jr.

Joe ‘Sonny’ Paul Jarrett, Jr., age 78 of Stone Mountain, GA, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2011. ‘Poppa Joe’ died peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born to Joe Paul Jarrett, Sr. and Beryl Jones Jarrett on December 3, 1932, in Atlanta, GA.

Preceded in death by his Parents, and brothers, Gene Ray Jarrett, Sr. and Gordon Oliver Jarrett, he is survived by his loving Wife of 58 years, Shirley Jean Brundage Jarrett; Son, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff P. (Tracy) Jarrett; Daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Allen (Jeannie Jarrett) Mobley and Ms. Joanna Jarrett; 5 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren; Brothers, Johnny and Sue Jarrett, Rogers and Roxie Jarrett; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog ‘George (Bubby)’.

Mr. Jarrett attended school in Atlanta and graduated from Hoke Smith High School in the class of 1951. He spent a few years working for Anderson Clayton Cotton Brokers, followed by Crum & Forster Insurance Agency. An AVID Georgia Tech fan, he was also a member of the Mountain Park First Baptist Church, where he was a volunteer for the Family Ministry Center.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Horis A. Ward Stone Mountain Chapel, with Rev. Richard King officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
