Mildred was the best kind of trusted friend.  We shared a lot of good times.  She was a good listener and a friend who cared about others.  

We met Mildred and Jack over thirty five years ago as founding memebers of faith Builders Class.  The last twenty years we ate lunch together on Sundays and if we were not in chuch we would get a call "This is God - where were you?"  

If you were sick she brought food along with a "I don't know what it tastes like - but it's the thought that counts."  

We liked to rehash sports including our Kansas teams and her beloved Braves.  

We shared recipes and both of us knew how to make a disaster of a good cake recipe.  Her specialty was rum cake.  Mine was plumb cake.

We talked every week and I miss her every day.

To all of you that knew my mom as she was a very special person to me. I fell certain that mom and dad are having an Awesome time in heaven. One day we all will be rejoicing together.  I think of her everyday It was good that gave her to us.  Love you Mom.

Our trips to New England to eat all the LOBSTER we could eat will be with me always.  Also nobody enjoyed the Braves  games as much as Mildred.  We made that an annual tradition for many many years.  Mildred was a very special person, a great friend to me and she is missed greatly.

My Friend Mildred Evans

I watched her reaction as soon as I heard the remark.  To my amazement, she was laughing as heartily as the rest of us.  Who would have thought being refered to as "Mildew" would be amusing?  Well, to Mildred Evans, a good pun was worth the laugh, no matter the subject.  I have always tried to admire that quality in Mildred, considering it an unsung manifestation of the "fruit of the Spirit."  It is my opinion that most of us cannot separate our egos and self-centeredness from playful comradery if we see ourselves as potential targets. Though for all who knew that relationship between Rogna and Mildred, the "nickname" was truly an endearment, one I find particularly apt.  
     
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfullness and gentleness, self-control.  Against such there is no law.  And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  Let us not be conceited, provoking one another, envying one another."  Galations 5:22-26

I'm sorry that I did not have the privilege of knowing Mildred for many years.  However, in 2 or 3 years I found her to be a unique person.  

Paul, a long time friend visited Mt. Carmel and had lunch with us.  His wife was in LaGrange  caring for a sister with a broken hip.  Mildred said "why did your wife leave you."  Paul in turned asked Mildred, who's arm was in a cast, "how she broke her arm."  Mildred's relpy "I was drunk and climbed on a table and fell off."  That was Mildred-we all laughed!  I truly miss her. Nell Thomas

Mildred was a good friend for years.  We always traded phone calls when grapes were on sale.  Then she made her grape salad. 

We worked with her for many years (10 maybe) in the kitchen on Wednesdays.  She was the "lettuce lady" and we really miss her when we see her lettuce has to be cut.

We bare witness of Mildred's great love, committed ministery, and friendship for 10 years.  She coordinated a "ministry of love" thru the Christian faith Builders class at her church from approximately 2000 to 2010.  My husband and I directed the Urban education and family Initiative (UEFI) program for 12 years.  UEFI program was designed to assist children who were failing or not performing well in public school.  

Mildred, along with the Christian Faith Builders Class memebers provided a yearly Christmas party for the 10 underprivileged students who were mostly from single-parent homes.  Each child received a big shopping bag containing good things for them to use, play with, and wear.  The children looked forward every year to this wonderful party.  All of the adults enjoyed the party as much as the children.  Mildred made certain that Santa Claus, good food, and fun games were the high light of the party.

Thank you Mildred Evans for all your good works.  We shall never forget you.  Rest well from your labor.  We love you

Mildred played a very important part in my life.  We lived in Decatur, Ga. in the 70's and attended Mt. Carmel Christian Church at the original site.  My husband Ken and I and our three boys were active in the Sunday Bible Study class, the Women's group, the Children's group, and our two sons attended the school.  I also played bridge with the ladies group in which Mildred belonged.  She was a very good bridge player, but regardless of the occasion, she was always the life of the party because of her sense of humor.  Since we atteneded the same church and were in the ladies group and played bridge together, I guess it was natural that we developed a friendship over the years.  I look back now and call it "A God Thing" 

Her loyalty to that friendship carried over through the separation when our family moved to Texas in 1980.  We continued to see her when we visited our oldest son, Robbie, who had married a Georgia girl and stayed on when we moved.  There was never any question that we would see each other, it was an occasion I looked forward to each time we made the trip.  As the years went by, our trips were less frequent, but we still kept in touch through cards and calls.  When Robbie finally moved to Texas in 2003, we didn't travel anymore to Georgia, but that didn't cut the tie between Mildred and me.

We exchanged gift at Christmas and birthdays, as well as cards and calls.  On one of those occasions, I sent her a plaque that said "In my father's house, there are many mansions.  I hope mine is next to yours."  You see, that really expresses how I felt about her.  I could imagine that pleasure of having her as a neighbor in eternity.  Not only were we believer's, we were friends and looked forward to spending our life after life together.  Now, I am imagining she and Jack having fellowship with the Savior and including Ken, who joined the heavenly throng in 2010. 

Although I still have her funny cards, and words of encouragement and love to remind me of our relationship, I look forward to the time when we can sit on our front porches and rock away,  God is so good to give us earthly friends, to remind us of the friendship we have with him  Now that my husband and my best friend have joined my family in heaven, I take comfort in knowing He has prepared a place for me to live with Him and them, forever.  Thank you Farther for giving me a friend like Mildred on earth, and for knowing that I will see her again in eternity.  If you want to know where we are, just listen for the laughter!

Mildred was a very special person in my life.  She was very caring and I appreciate her so much.  She never felt to bad to come and help on Wednesday mornings and ALWAYS asked me if I needed her to stay longer and help me.  No matter how bad she felt she was always there I am so glad that God let our paths cross.  She was a real warrior and we surely do miss her in the kitchen.  She was a real inspiration to all of us.  
God has a new flower in His garden.

Mildred's faith was always an inspiration to me.  She had a wonderful attitude and was a good friend.  I truly miss her.

Our dear Mildred....such a loving, kind soul.  You are  truly missed.  I have so many beautiful memories that will always be near to my heart.
