May 6, 1963 - November 27, 2015
After a hard fought battle against brain cancer, Alex peacefully passed away on November 27, 2015.
Alex is predeceased by his parents, Sandor and Trudy. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Marie, of 22 years. They were married in Kananaskis on May 21, 1993.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Anne Marie of Stony Plain, brother Tom (Michelle) of Calgary, the entire Parker clan, as well as numerous friends in Canada and abroad who were family to Alex.
Alex was born in Calgary in 1963. He cultivated a love for the outdoors while fishing with his father on the Bow River. After high school, he studied resource management at Lethbridge Community College and entered the workforce with provincial Fish and Wildlife and Forestry departments. He worked as problem wildlife officer, river guardian, and forest fire initial attack officer.
He met Anne Marie in Fort McMurray in 1988. They moved to Calgary in 1990, so Alex could pursue telecommunications studies at SAIT. Upon graduation, they moved back to Fort McMurray where Alex found his way into his career as an environmental consultant for the oil and gas industry.
Alex spent many months away from home working and living in camps in northern Alberta. Anne Marie was always excited to see him return home. In his free time, he loved to hang out with his Fort McMurray buddies in his deluxe garage on Silvertip Place. He also found a new hangout for fishing and relaxing in the purchase of a cottage at Nine Mile Point at Slave Lake.
In 2006, Alex and Anne Marie moved to their dream home on an acreage outside of Stony Plain. Smoky Bella joined the family shortly thereafter, and the family spent many years enjoying the beautifully treed property with its active bird and wildlife population.
Starting in 2008, Alex and Anne Marie started wintering in Lake Havasu, Arizona, so Alex could pursue his passions of golfing and boating year round. He even managed to squeeze in a couple of years of "snowbirding" at such a young age - he was always excited when someone gave him the senior's discount in Arizona!
The last two years of Alex's life were spent pursuing medical treatment, but they were also full of family, friends, and adventure. No minute was wasted. No words left unsaid. Alex was loved.
It is almost impossible to capture Alex in words. He was funny, loud, smart, crusty, generous, loving, annoying...in all ways simply wonderful. We will miss him.
The Celebration of Alex's life will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Parkland Funeral Home, 3502 44th Avenue, Stony Plain, Alberta. A reception will follow on the family acreage. For those unable to attend, please toast to Alex with a cold Corona!
Memorial donations may be made to the Westview Health Care Centre Hospice, 4405 Park Drive, Stony Plain, AB, T7Z 2M7 or to Dr. Tim Darsaut, University of Alberta, Research Account 295TD
