On Feb 3, 2023, Douglas Earl Brown of Stony Plain, passed away quietly at the age of 95. Doug was born in Tomahawk, Alberta in 1927, son of David and Eva Brown. His pioneering grandparents, homesteaded in the Tomahawk area in 1905. He was raised on a family that had strong moral values. They loved music, laughter, poetry and nature of all kinds, which followed him throughout his life.
In 1950, he married Clare Tinney of Highvale, Alberta. Doug and Clare lived a full life dedicated to each other for 63 years until Clare’s passing in 2014.
From an early age, Doug was interested in motor mechanics. He had an incredible mechanical aptitude, which developed into a lifetime of farming, maintaining, building, and inventing solutions to all things he came across that had a motion or made a sound when it ran.
He was a very respected man for his principles, character, abilities, fun-loving attitude, and love of music.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, wife Clare (Tinney), his siblings Jim, David (Ella), sisters Jean (Doug), Edra (Win), and Zetta (Dick) and dear cousin Alice Palmer.
He leaves to mourn his children, Ronald (Carolyn), Alan (Claudette), Russell (Lavina), and Susan, 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, Clare’s sister Doris Kulak, sisters-in-law Donna Tinney, Barbara Tinney, brother-in-law Gordon Welsh and many friends in the County of Parkland and Stony Plain communities.
His life will be celebrated, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Stony Plain United Church.
Doug’s family will hold a private interment in June of 2023, at the Highvale Cemetery.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Stony Plain Good Samaritan Care Center and also to our family and friends who have offered their kindness and support during this time.
