Forever loved and deeply missed, Elfrieda Sampert passed away on December 2, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Stony Plain Care Centre. We were blessed to have our beautiful Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother for 98 years.
Elfrieda is survived by her children Diana Juse, Douglas (Angie) Sampert, Fay (Dale) McNamara, 6 grandchildren, Jarrid (Janeen) Juse, Gina (Kevin) Hormann, Greg (Terrie) Sampert, Kari (Rob) Hoffman, Dustin (Julie) McNamara, Lindsay McNamara and 16 great grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Irene Nonnenmacher and Dorothy Hennig.
Elfrieda was predeceased by her husband Elmer, son-in-law Larry Juse, sister Linda Hauer, brothers, Egon Herrmann and Herbert Herrmann and her parents, Otto and Lina Herrmann.
Elfrieda was born in Germany and immigrated to the Ellscott area at the age of three with her parents who then took up a homestead. Being the oldest of six children she worked on the farm, helped with the care of her younger siblings and attended Gamefield School. After spending time in Kelowna working at the apple packing plant she came home for Christmas in 1945. In January 1946, she met Elmer who had just returned from serving in WWII. They married in October of 1946, and took up mixed farming. Elfrieda worked in a General store, several restaurants, a doctor’s office and ended her career working in the Boyle Post Office.
Elfrieda was raised in the Lutheran religion and she was responsible for raising her children in God’s word. She loved and cared for her family offering help and support whenever needed.
Elfrieda was a very hard worker and her life was not always easy, but she was very social and had lots of good times curling, snowmobiling, fishing, camping, playing cards and travelling. She was a great cook and made the best pies and cinnamon buns!
Thank you to the staff in the Cottages and the First Floor of the Good Samaritan, Stony Plain, for the great care provided to Elfrieda over the past nine years.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Elfrieda’s memory can be made to: Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories 10430 – 61 Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T6H 1M4, or the The Kidney Foundation of Canada, #202, 11227 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T5K 0L5
