

Eugene Michael “Gene” Chester passed away on November 30, 2025, in Evansburg, Alberta, at the age of 92. Born on November 1, 1933, on the homestead near Lafond, Alberta, Gene lived a long and dedicated life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and deep love of sports.
Gene began his career in July, 1952 with Canadian Utilities Ltd as part of the traveling construction crew. In June 1955, he joined Alberta Power Ltd as District serviceman stationed at Marwayne. His commitment and skills led to 9 years there involved with family, community, and lifelong friends. In 1964 he became a serviceman in Hay River, Northwest Territories; June 1967, he reposted to Grande Prairie as a serviceman and supervisor. In 1977, Gene took on the role of construction and maintenance supervisor in Slave Lake, Alberta – a position he held until retirement. Throughout his career, Gene was known for his reliability and leadership across the communities he served.
Gene’s personal life was equally rich. He was first married to Florence Charrois in 1952 until her passing in 1993. In 1997 he married Candace Treit, with whom he shared many years until her passing earlier this year in 2025.
He is lovingly remembered by his son Glenn Chester: daughter Tessa Knudsen; stepdaughters Tammy Dmyterko and Tina Genge and sister Joyce Chester.
He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Therese Chester; sister Gloria Goodchild and both of his wives, Florence and Candace.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Gene played and coached fastball and hockey during his younger years and remained an unwavering Edmonton Oilers fan throughout his life. His passion for the game brought joy to those around him and created lasting memories for friends and family alike.
