Passed away peacefully at the age of 90 in Stony Plain, Alberta on Sunday, June 23, 2024
Hilda was born on May 24,1934 to parents Olga and Louis Beiersdorfer in Saskatoon, SK. Her parents left this earth in Hilda’s early years and she was lovingly supported by her best friend, Grace’s, parents affectionately known as Mom and Pop Schnell. Together Hilda and Grace attended nursing school together and remained lifelong friends with Grace until her passing. Eventually, nursing work brought Hilda to Alberta. Soon after she met and fell in love with husband George Schoepp. Together they worked to grow the family farm on Boundary Road in Stony Plain. They married at St Matthew on June 28, 1958 continuing to attend and served faithfully at St Matthew Lutheran Church in Stony Plain. Hilda served for 52 years in the Altar Guild and as many years as a Greeter at church. She also served on the COOP Board of Directors for many years as well as the Seminary Guild at Concordia Seminary.
Together they raised four children: Brenda Schoepp, David Schoepp, James (Anne) Schoepp and Joanne (Russell) Bardak. To date, Hilda is the very proud Grandmother of ten (Amie Nemecz and husband Rob, Benjamin Bignell and wife Josee, Selim Schoepp, Stefan Schoepp, Anders Schoepp and wife Dee, Aline Schoepp, Elsa Schoepp, Nicholas Bardak, Emily Bardak and Katelyn Bardak) and great Grandmother of eleven (Jenna, Dana, Laura, and Tessa Nemecz; Elizabeth, Philip, and Olivier Bignell, Klara Schoepp; Amelia, Finnley, and Taiven Schoepp).
Hilda demonstrated daily the values of integrity, honesty, trustworthiness, respect, joy and love. She held a unique place in everyone’s heart and loved to laugh and make others laugh. She was our confident, our friend, our beacon of love and the best supplier of cookies in the world. Hilda loved to host people in her home, a home that she designed herself and had built in 2000. Many family and community gatherings were held at the farm. Hilda’s favourite type of gathering was a “garden party” where we could enjoy the beautiful farmyard with family and friends. She welcomed all and she loved getting to know new people in her children’s, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. Hilda loved to travel and it was an on-going dream to experience more people and places.
Hilda always cherished her friendships and held those friends dear for many years. She loved her Schoepp family sisters-in-laws, brother-in-laws and all her nephews and nieces and their families. She loved her brother Dave (deceased), her sister-in-law and their children as well as her sister Betty, her brother in law and all their children. She also loved getting to know her family from Germany since the 1980s, visiting back and forth several times over the years.
If you were fortunate enough to know Hilda Schoepp, you knew a wonderful person with a huge capacity for love, humour and joy.
To celebrate Hilda’s life and to lay her to rest, the family will be hosting a Memorial Service on Wednesday, July 03 at 7:00 pm at Parkland Funeral Chapel, 3502 44 Avenue, Stony Plain, Alberta.
