As her niece, I feel such a deep sense of loss, and at the same time, so much gratitude for the time I was able to share with her. I have such fond memories of the times I spent  with my aunt at her farm. Those days were filled with simple joys—exploring, being outdoors, and feeling so warmly welcomed. I always appreciated our conversations; she had a way of making time feel unhurried and meaningful. Her cheerful laugh was something truly special, and something I will always remember. She will be deeply missed, and remembered with great affection.

Joy and I were introduced  adecade ago when Lee brought me to her acreage to officially  introduce me as his then girlfriend. We instantly hit it off being both avid equine aficionadosand garden enthusiasts we could visit easily for hours and talk about our horse adventures and time in the UK as I had recently relocated from Scotland mum loved animals and each time she come and visit us in Edmonton she always had a treat for the dogs they were so excited to see her. I made it a point to have proper black tea for her visits and baked goodies. Which she always expressed her gratitude for We wil mis the Sunday visits and the flowerswe would gift each other just to bring a smile tooneanother's face. Joy became my Mum too.  She always had time for us and when she went into the care home we made sure to make time for her  such as gifting apintvof Raspberries as those were her favourite treats he would devour them enthusiastically like a child . It saddened me when she surrendered to the fact she was not returning to see her horse again but I would share photos of horse escapades with her and try keep her spirits up she got addicted to watching the yellowstone series.. mumma Joy I hope you're riding toyour hearts content and taking big leaps over that rainbow bridge

Mom used to love coming over for Sunday lunches and visiting with the dogs. She always had treats for them and chocolates for me 😊.  She was loved and will be truly missed ❤️

Visit  to Surrey BC in 2023 with her brother Gordon.

In  2023 Joy came to stay with us in Surrey BC. It  was always a pleasure to have Joy come for a visit.  She reminisced with her brother Gord about their childhood. We enjoyed wonderful meals together and lots of laughs. We even got her hooked on the program Yellowstone.

You will dearly be missed for your smile, laughter, and generous heart. You are no longer with us, but you will always remain in our hearts.

In memory of Joy Newman



Joy’s Mum, Gladys, and my Mum, Beryl, were  good friends and when Gladys made the decision to leave England and live in Canada with Joy, they corresponded fairly regularly.  On the passing of our Mothers, Joy and I kept in touch, especially at Christmas when we’d put notes into our cards to relate whatever had happened in our respective lives over the past year.

In July 2023, Joy visited England on family business and it was lovely to meet up with her again after so many years.  She enjoyed her visit to England but, due to travel problems, was forced to stay here for an extra month whilst these were finalised, spending this time with my husband and myself.  To try and take Joy’s mind off the trauma of sorting these details, we visited many of her old haunts, driving around the village where she had grown up and stopping by the house where she’d lived as a child.  We drove her into the countryside where she had groomed horses in her teen years, took her to Bishops Cleeve where she had lived prior to leaving England (a few tears here), lunched at various places that had sprung up in her absence and she also enjoyed a visit to Broadway, England, to see my brother and his home.  All of this in between sorting and finally getting Joy booked on a flight back to Canada.  I remember how she loved to sit in our garden, taking in the sunshine and the smell of the English roses, and I hope she was able to look back on these good times when she was again settled in her own home.  She always spoke affectionately about her daughter, Leanne, and our thoughts are with her especially at this time.

Joy is sadly no longer with us and she will be missed by everyone but we hope she is now at peace.  We will remember her with love.

My condolences to all of Joy’s family and many friends. I met Joy in about 1993 - she has been part of my life for a long time. We could all learn something from Joy on how to be a great friend. She cared enough to drive all the way out east of Edmonton to see me, bring us a pie, even though she had a sore shoulder, even bringing treats for my dog. She was a vibrant caring person, loved her horses, and was generous with her time for her friends and family. I’ve lost a lot of friends over time but she was a keeper. I was proud to call her my dearest friend, I wish we could have spent more time together. She will very much be missed. I picture her now up in the great beyond galloping her Jazz, flanked by all her other lucky horses, dogs and cats, all happy to be free.

My dear friend Joy, I’ll be forever grateful that we had great adventures in England. You were so happy there as you recalled childhood memories.  We laughed & smiled so much; this is how I’ll remember you forever ❤️ Love Debra
