1942 -2025
Rose was born on October 12, 1942, the youngest child in a family of 17 children. Her parents, Henry and Katherine Goertz, brought their daughter, Rose, to the waters of Holy Baptism at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Stony Plain on November 15, 1942. Her uncle and aunt, Sam and Minnie Wichman, were her godparents and the passage given to her at her baptism was Mark 10:14: “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.”
Rose was confirmed by Rev. Arthur Gehring at St. Matthew Lutheran Church on April 14, 1957. Her confirmation verse was 2 Timothy 3:14: “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it.” Rose took these words to heart and indeed continued to live with a confident faith in her Saviour for all of her years.
On June 2, 1960, Rose married the love of her life, Marvin R. Hennig, at St. Matthew, and they were blessed with the birth of a baby boy, Todd, on December 26, 1969.
Rose loved being part of a large family and enjoyed inviting so many people into the family home, where she would cook the most amazing meals. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time at their lot at Lake Isle. Rose also loved her garden and flowers, and she delighted in gifting people with pickles and salsa she made with her home-grown ingredients. Rose loved music, and she enjoyed dancing whenever she had the opportunity.
Rose’s church family was also precious to her. She served as church organist and on the LWML, and she helped organize several large church meals over the years.
Rose passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025.
Rose is survived by her son Todd & wife Trixie, grandchildren Austin, Kaylie and Dawson, sisters-in-law June Goertz and Ruth Adam, and brother-in-law Roland Hennig.
She was predeceased by her husband Marvin; grandson Trey; sisters Trudy, Frieda, Emma, Erna, Martha, Tillie, Elsie, Tess, Carrie, Mary and Beth; and brothers Jack, Phil, John, Albert and Walter.
