Susan was born to Eddy and Dorothy Dales on January 6th, 1957. After graduating high school, Susan continued her education and received her Diploma in Early Childhood Education and began her career in Early Education at Onoway Elementary School. She specialized in Early Literacy where she could share her love of reading and she opened the world up to hundreds of children through books and the written word.
Family was integral to Susan – Falling in the middle of 7 sisters and one brother (Heather, Hazel, Jeanette, Ramona, Glenn, Lorna & Holly). Susan lived multiple roles in her family – daughter, little sister, big sister, care-taker & friend. As the family continued to grow, Susan became a sister-in-law, aunty and then became Mom herself to her own children Grant & Jolene. Susan treated her friends as an extension of this family and if you were lucky enough to be friends with Susan, you were considered family by all.
Susan was thrilled to be a Nonna with the birth of her first grandchild, Adellyn, who was followed closely by the second, Stella, arriving 6 weeks later. Two sweet grandsons, Jake and Luke, arrived 2 and 3 years later to complete Nonna’s family. She loved doting on her grandchildren, reading to them and eventually being read to by them.
Susan was known for her beauty, grace, knowledge and compassion. She loved baking and was known for her famous buns. She loved shopping, especially for shoes or that one particular shirt that she had envisioned with an outfit that would take all day to find in the stores. She loved reading and passing that passion on. She loved hockey and baseball – especially watching them live.
Susan had always been surrounded by amazing family and friends, but her diagnoses of ALS provided all of us around her to truly show how much we loved and supported her.
Susan is predeceased by her parents Eddy & Dorothy Dales. She is survived by her son Grant, Daughter Jolene (Barry); grandchildren Adellyn, Stella, Jake & Luke; her partner Greg; sisters Heather (Bill), Hazel (Brian), Jeanette (Ken), Ramona (Darrel), Lorna (Vern), Holly (Maurice), and her brother Glenn (Coleen).
A Funeral Service will be held at the Stony Plain Heritage Park at 5100 – 41 Avenue in the Spruce Grove Room at 1:00PM on Thursday, June 15th followed by lunch. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the ALS Society of Alberta (7874 10 Street NE Calgary, AB, T2E 8W1) or the Onoway Anglican Church (4809 50 St, Onoway, AB T0E 1V0, Canada) in Susan’s honour.
