
Thomas F. Moran, age 93, died in his home in Stony Point, New York on May 26, 2011. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was predeceased by his wife Melissa Alice Childers, his son, Dr. Thomas F. Moran Jr., and his sisters, Margaret Moran, Catherine Connor and Helen Ryan. He is survived by his second wife Elizabeth Cooney Boal Moran, his daughters, Mary-Ellen Devlin and Melissa O'Brien and his grandchildren, Jennifer Lacovara ,Thomas Christopher O'Brien, Andrew Timbers, Melissa Timbers and Drew Hammond. Mr. Moran was a 1935 graduate of Regis High School in Manhattan and achieved a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree at New York University in 1939. Prior to enlisting in the Army in August, 1941, he worked for the DuPont Corporation. He joined the Army Corp of Engineers and transferred to Explosive Ordinance Disposal and trained at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. As part of the Normandy Invasion, he landed at Utah Beach on D+11 and followed the invasion inward through France, Belgium and Germany. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and his last assignment in Europe, following Germany's surrender, was sweeping the Palais of Justice in Nuremburg for explosives prior to the start of the trials. After the war, he married Melissa Alice Childers in Washington D.C. and returned to the DuPont Corporation. He attended the University of Maryland law school in the evening and graduated in 1948. He joined the Manhattan law firm Cooper Dunham in 1960, became partner in 1963 and retired in 1996. After the death of his wife, Melissa Alice, he married Elizabeth Cooney Boal in 1996 and they resided in Stony Point, New York for the past 15 years. Higgins Funeral Home of Stony Point is handling the arrangements. Friends are welcome to call on Sunday from 2-4pm and Monday 4-7pm. A funeral mass at the Immaculate Conception Church will be held on Tuesday, May 31st at 10AM with burial at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, New York. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to honor his memory with a donation to Regis High School, 55 East 84th Street, New York, NY 10028.
