Our most sincere condolences at the loss of Uncle Al.  He has always been so kind to us and such a pleasure to be around.  We are terribly sorry to hear of his passing.  Today, we look forward to honoring him here in Pearl Harbor, as a Veteran, a patriot, and a man for whom I have the greatest admiration.

I remember all of the happy fun times we all had with Al and Mae: the cottage, the beach, golfing, Manistee, boiling corn and grillng burgers, dog fights over Vern's toes, Christmas and Halloween parties, Bob and Al philosophising while sitting in lawn chairs.  Remember the onions!  He'll truly be missed but I cherish the laughs and tears we shared over so many years.  Dorothy

Dear Aunt Mae, Nancy Lee, Alec, Cindy and Paul, I was sorry to hear about Uncle Al's passing.  I hope your memories are helping you get this through this tough time.  I was sorry I wasn't able to attend the memorial service as I was grateful and felt supported to see my cousins at my own Dad's funeral.  Please know that I was with you in spirit and will continue to be with you in spirit especially over the holidays.

We only just heard about Al today.  I just read all of the posts to this guestbook and I am not surprised how much everybody loved Al, and I am moved by how much he touched the lives of his family and friends.  Al is one of the last people at Kingswood in Stuart, FL, that knew my grandparents, Nevin and Elva.  They were neighbors and friends who lived in the same building #12 in Kingswood.  After my grandfather passed away, my father, Ron, moved into the condo in Kingswood and was Al and Mae's neighbor and after my father passed away, I kept the condo and Al was our neighbor and our friend. I always enjoyed visiting with Al and Mae.  We are planning on going to the condo for a brief vacation at the end of December and I had hoped I would have had a chance to visit with Al.  I will miss my FL neighbor, Al.  He was a fine, decent man and our condolences go out to Mae and the rest of Al's family.

I will always remember Uncle Al's great laugh! I have wonderful memories of visiting U Al & A Mae's home growing up. He always reminded me of Grandpa Stewart. Thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family. He will be missed!!

Thinking of Uncle Al today with love and many happy childhood memories.  It was lots of fun to be at Uncle Al and Aunt Mae's home in Berkley for a Stewart Thanksgiving or Christmas get-together. He always made a point of saying something nice to all the kids.  He had a great laugh!  To my dear cousins Nancy, Alec, Cindy and Paul: they say you're never truly prepared for the loss of a parent, no matter how expected, and I believe that's true.  My thoughts are with all of you, your children, and Aunt Mae.  Sending love and prayer for your comfort.

I was truly blessed to have had such a wonderful Uncle whose love I always felt and treasured.  He was a part of so many of my favorite memories and will be in my heart always.  I will miss him dearly.

Dear Mrs. Stewart, We are so sad to hear of Mr. Stewarts passing.  We have so many wonderful memories of the two of you in Flordia.  We always enjoyed our time with you both and looked forward to it each time we were in Flordia.  He was a very smart and interesting person and always had wise words to say.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Paul we love you and my heart is breaking for you.  I know how much you loved and looked up to your Dad.  When he was in the hospital last year we had several talks and He was so proud of you.  He will be missed!!

Dear Aunt Mae and Family,

Dear Aunt Mae and family,
     You are all in our thoughts and prayers!  We are so sorry that we are unable to be there with you at this time.  But our hearts are there with you!  We are so thankful for Uncle Al!  His kindness, thoughtfulness, gentle laughter, sensitivity--all are precious to us.  We have so many wonderful memories of him at the many family gatherings, the cottage, in Berkley, and the family reunions in Manistee. At one of the family reunions I had a great opportunity to sit and talk with him for quite a while and he shared memories of his time in the Navy.  I will always treasure that time as well as my times of praying with him in person or over the phone. 
     He was a man of integrity and faith.  How very much we will miss him and hearing him call Cora by her full name:  Cora Lynn!

I feel truly blessed to have Alexander Stewart Jr as my granfather. He was kindest and most loving man I ever knew. 
He taught me the meaning of hard work by making us do chores at the cottage. He would supervise me, and made sure I did the right way. I would do it that way if I wanted to spend my earning at the store. He also taught me how to golf and bowl. I still remember the first set he got me for my birthday. 
There are so many memories of my grandpa. From christmas in Berkley and Manistee, the best summers of my childhood in Rondeau, and spring breaks in Stuart. I remember grandpa would take us to the dirt racing tracks in Rondeau. We would bet on cars each race, and of course they were Fords. While driving grandpa would always trick us by fake turning the steering wheel into places like we would miss our destination. During christmas he would get us my fake cutting his finger while unwrapping present. I can still remember the look on his face when he reeled in that big steelhead during Uncle Pauls fishing tournament. He always knew how to put a smile on my face.
Grandpa was a great man. The last time I seen him was the night of my wedding.  It will be the happiest and most memorable day of my life. You will be truly missed. I love you Grandpa.

We were so saddened when we opened the paper today and found Al's obituary in the Manistee News Advocate.  Ever since meeting you both years ago and playing golf with the "seniors" we have been so very fond of both of you.  It was a great loss when Al could no longer play with us.  We pray for your strength in these difficult days ahead and know that Al is now in the loving arms of Our Lord!  God's blessings to you and your family.

I feel Incredibly luck to have had such a wonderful Grandfather and luckier to be full of memories of all the time I've been able to spend with him. When I think back on the summers of my childhood nearly all of them are of the cottage in Rondeau and spending time with my family there. Grandpa was always ready to play catch with me, go for a bike ride, walk us little ones down to the lake for a dip, or get me to help him mow the lawn. He taught me that the value of a dollar was some smarties and an Aero bar!
 I have many fond memories of my Grandfather in Berkley too.I spent many christmases there and he made the holidays as warm as they could be. Grandpa really knew what love was and showed it to all of us unconditionally without a hitch. 
The last time I saw my Grandpa I knew that I may not see him again, but being ready for it doesn't make it any easier. The last thing I said to him was that I loved him and he said that he loved me too. I will always be thankful for that.

Mae I am so sorry for your loss of an awesome husband of 64 years and a great dad.
You have both been such a blessing and a wonderful example in my life and countless others.
Nancy was my best friend in high school and I feel like the prodigal daughter as many miles and years have lapsed since I had seen you. I  am so blessed to have spent some time with you, Al and Nancy over the last year here in Florida.
You welcomed me with open arms as if I had only seen you yesterday.
I have so many fond memories of many nights at the Stewart home, the Rondeu cottage and oh yes that tan fast back mustang.

Al was always the sweetest man and was always ever so handsome.

I have many memories of my Grandpa. I remember all the family time spent at the cottage, condo,and their houses in Berkley and Manistee. Grandpa made sure that we kids were happy. He would tell us stories of Bruno in Canada and would pretend to trip to make us smile. One of my more recent memories is of the last time I visited my grandparents in Florida. We were sitting in the living room when Grandpa walked through. He began to stumble and we all jumped up ready to catch him in case he fell. Then he stopped, looked up, and smiled at us. He had played the old fake trip on us and tricked us good. This is a memory that always makes me smile and shows me what a good-natured man he was. He is, and will be, greatly missed.
I love you Grandpa.

I am very grateful to be blessed with such a wonderful father in-law. I was welcomed into your family with open arms and have felt nothing but love ever since. I will miss you in all that we do, but I know in my heart that we will see each other again. Maybe Max will come snuggle up and snore by your side. 
I'm sorry I'm not there with all of you, but I am so happy that you were able to spend time with Dad before he moved on to be with God.

Thank you God for giving me the past 26 years with such a wonderful person. Keep him in your arms and we'll keep him in our hearts and memories. Amen.

We are so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you at this difficult time.

My grandfather was one of the kindest and strongest men I have ever known. I have so many memories I dont even know where to start. I remember playing in the driveway at their Berkley house, I remember going to the cottage every summer. That was always my absolute favorite place to be in the world. At the Rondeu cottage with my grandparents is literally the best that life ever gets. For me at least. Walking to the lake, or riding bikes to get ice cream, or going for rides through the park at night to see deer. It simply didnt get any better than that. 
The last time I saw my grandfather was at my cousin Duanes wedding and I knew at that time that it would be the last time I would ever see him. But even knowing this fact, and thinking about it daily, doesnt help at all when it actually happens. I was very lucky to get to say good bye to him in my own way at the wedding... alot of people didnt get this privledge.... but it didnt make it any easier on me when my mother called me the other night to tell me the news. 
I am constantly thinking about you and miss you so much.

I'm so sorry to hear of Uncle Al's passing.  I've always thought a lot of him, and though we didn't see each other much in the last thirty years, I have great memories of him at Christmastime, and even a few at the cottage in Canada.  He was always a great host, and had a kind word for everyone. My kids thought he looked just like his dad, who we called Papa, but in the photo on this page, I can see my grandma.  There is something in the smile...
The last time I remember seeing him was in Traverse City Hospital several years ago. He was in pretty good spirits, even though he wasn't feeling too great. How wonderful that the whole family was with him as he entered the Kingdom of Heaven. My deepest sympathy to Aunt Mae, Nancy, Alec, Cindy, Paul and your families. Wish I could be there. You are in my prayers.

My condolences to the family.  I remember Uncle Al well.  I always enjoyed and remember well the visits at holidays and the occasions I was able to share.  I am sorry for your loss and hope that you find comfort in the end of this life's suffering.

Words cannot express the deep sadness I feel on the news of the death of my brother, Al.  He was a very kind and caring man.  I loved him and my thoughts and prayers are with his dear family at this sad time.

I have very fond memories of Uncle Al and the cottage. I am so sorry for the loss of a fine man. I wish I could be there to express my love and support in person.

As the second son of Uncle Al's sister Morag, I left Detroit at 17 and didn't return often. Then he and Aunt Mae moved to Florida, and I have not had much contact. I very much enjoyed seeing both of them in 2004 at the 50th anniversary party for Al's sister, my Aunt Jean and my (late) Uncle Al MacDonald. But I do remember my early days in Detroit, especially Christmas gatherings for the whole Stewart clan, with adults talking and eating and cooking and cleaning up, and the kids running around, making a lot of noise, and digging into presents. I also remember visiting Uncle Al and Aunt Mae at their cottage in Ontario -- Rondeau, I think. I remember trekking a short way through the pine forest (and swatting mosquitoes) to get to the shore of the lake, walk out the dock, and get into their boat to go fishing. At least I think there was a boat involved; my memories of the dock are more clear. Also very clear is the memory that I never caught more than a 4 inch sunfish. But I still loved those trips to the cottage.
My deep condolences to Aunt Mae and to the entire family. What a privilege for my uncle to see his children's children, and their children, and what a loss to all of them this will be. May you all know God's presence and blessing in this time of bereavement and into the future.
