Andrew “Sonny” Pugliese, 83, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, surrounded by his family in Stuart, Florida, his home of 20 years. Born and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Sonny cherished the close-knit community of his youth and often spoke fondly of those days.
Sonny was a devoted husband to his wife, Barbara, for 59 years and a loving father to Andrew Jr. (AJ) of Stoneham, Massachusetts; Jeff and his wife Marjorie of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Lisa and her husband Larry of San Diego, California. Brother to Richard Clougherty Jr. of Buffalo, New York. Family meant the world to Sonny. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family. They were his greatest pride and joy. He was a kind, loving, and proud grandfather to Gianna and Sofia Salazar, Andrew and Caterina Pugliese, and Pria Pugliese.
Sonny was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, serving during wartime in the Panama Canal in communications and working with Morse Code. One week prior to his passing, he was visited by a veteran volunteer who thanked him for his service and honored him with a pinning ceremony. Sonny beamed with pride, and both veterans saluted each other. He loved his country and cherished the song “God Bless the USA.”
A longtime resident of Quincy, Massachusetts, Sonny was active in Quincy Youth Hockey as a coach, hockey dad, and referee, leaving a lasting impact on generations of young players. He retired from Polaroid after 38 years, having often worked multiple jobs to provide for his family. In retirement, Sonny divided his time between Point Sebago, Maine, and Stuart, Florida, where he was a beloved member of both communities. At Point Sebago, he was a fixture at Ski Beach and participated in activities to raise money for the charity Camp Sunshine, a cause close to his heart. He was fondly known as “The Mayor of Point Sebago.” In Florida, Sonny was a cherished part of the Twin Lakes over-55 community. You could often find him riding his bike, swimming at the pool, or shooting the breeze with the guys. He was also a frequent volunteer, happily calling Bingo numbers and always ready to lend a helping hand to his family, friends, and neighbors.
Sonny, a devout Catholic, loved sports, especially hockey and football, the beach, San Diego, the San Diego Zoo, and taking cruises with family and friends. Known by many names — Sonny, Son, Dad, Pops, Mr. P, Uncle Sonny, The Captain, and his favorite, Papa — he was deeply loved and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Mass in his honor will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation in his name to the incredible Treasure Coast Hospice of Stuart, Florida, or The Wounded Warrior Foundation. Please feel free to share your favorite memory, story, and/or photo of Sonny with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him
