(by Ryan Thompson his grateful Grandson)
He’s a farm boy, tough from Warren town, Fed the cows ’fore the sun went down.
Walks through life with mud on his shoes, Knows what it takes to pay your dues.
The Marines sent him across the sea, Said, “The world’s a classroom, come learn with me.”
From foreign seas to the ocean blue, Everywhere he goes, the ladies knew.
He’s a legend, through and through, Sharp one-liners, heart so true. With a quick wit and a twinkle eye, Carl B. Wood will make you smile.
He can charm a room with just one glance, Sweep a lady with a smooth, slow dance.
Quick on his feet, sharp with his style, Turns every step into a smile. At the Rockland greens, he makes his name, Slickest putter in the golfing game.
Leans in close and says, “My friend… Here’s a truth you won’t forget again.”
“Life’s a test, it’ll twist and bend, But don’t you evah piss into the wind.”
You’ll laugh out loud, but you’ll hold it tight, That kind of wisdom lasts for life.
“How are ya?” he’ll ask with that sly ol’ grin. “I’m good,” you reply, but he dives right in.
“What are you good for?” — he’ll stop you cold, Then laugh so hard, he breaks the mold.
He sold for Sears ’til he made his way, Built Crestwood Kitchens, still here today.
With a handshake deal and a heart that’s true, He makes folks believe in their dreams come true.
He says, “Son, let me give you a clue, Find what you love, and let it pull you through.
For me, it’s sales, just talking all day, Making folks smile in my own kind of way.”
Every nurse that sticks his vein, He makes ’em laugh and blush the same.
With a one-liner sharp and a wink so smooth, He lights the room and sets the mood.
He’ll give his time, lend a helping hand, Stand by his loved ones, always make a plan.
For friends and family, he’ll do what he could, That’s the measure and treasure of Carl B. Wood.
He teaches us kids to save our pay, “Every penny saved makes a brighter day.”
In his trailer seat, the stories roll, With wisdom, laughter, and a heart of gold.
Eighty-nine years, he was our man, With a story bigger than this song can stand.
A joker, a dancer, a heart so good, Raise a cheer for Carl B. Wood!
He’s the legend, A through and through, Sharp one-liners, heart so true.
With a quick wit and a twinkle eye, Carl B. Wood will make you smile.
He says, “Son, don’t forget to love what you do…
And for goodness’ sake, don’t evah' piss into the wind.”
