Christopher’s academic journey began at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois, where he earned a degree in accounting. His passion for the law led him to DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, where he distinguished himself by earning the Juris Prudence Award in Evidence while completing his Juris Doctorate.
Professionally, Christopher was a formidable presence in the world of tax law. As a tax attorney representing the largest electric utility company in the country, he made an indelible mark. In his very first audit cycle, he secured the largest refund in the company’s history—a record he would go on to surpass with each subsequent cycle. His tenacity and expertise were hallmarks of his career.
In addition to his demanding legal work, Christopher dedicated his evenings to education as a full-time Professor of Business Law at Roosevelt University in Chicago. His commitment to teaching reflected a deep belief in sharing knowledge and shaping future professionals.
Christopher lived a life rooted in faith, generosity, and devotion to those around him. His unwavering spiritual convictions were central to his life and something he actively shared with others. A testament to this was his dedication to writing a Harmony of the Gospels—a heartfelt project intended as a lasting spiritual gift for his children and closest friends. Christopher also carried copies of the Gospel of John during his walks to work, each containing a five-dollar bill, which he gave to homeless individuals along the way. Though he could not change their circumstances directly, he hoped to introduce them to the One who could.
Since his retirement, Christopher found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful connections. He enjoyed playing chess and board games, often using these moments to bond with loved ones. Above all else, he cherished time spent with family and friends—moments that reflected the depth of his love and loyalty.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Zeilenga; his children: Sarah DiNardo, Chad Zeilenga, and Bailey Zeilenga; and his siblings: Judie Bolt, Christine Van Deel, Eileen Decker, Marj Van Eck, and Jim Zeilenga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Christopher Zeilenga Sr., and his brother Neil Zeilenga.
Christopher’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched with kindness and conviction. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of faith and compassion.
