Edith was born June 8, 1927 in Nebraska to her parents John and Anna. After losing their farm during the Dust Bowl in the 1930s, her father purchased a house and land in Minnesota in 1942. The family (10 children at the time between the ages of 5 and 23) brought most of their belongings in wagons and drove their tractors to their new farm in Minnesota.
While working as a bookkeeper at Strong Scott in Minneapolis, MN, Edith met Louis Momchilovich (a machinist there) and they were married on Valentine’s Day in 1953. They had four daughters – Gayle, Jan, Lynn and Lori. Edith always had a strong head for numbers and finished her career as a bookkeeper at Harstad – Todd Realty, a builder and real estate company based in New Brighton, MN. At her retirement, she received a plaque which stated: “If you need money, ask Edith”. After retiring, Louis and Edith moved to Marathon in the Florida Keys. They later moved to Stuart, Florida.
Edith was very artistic and enjoyed sewing, knitting and needlepoint (skills which, although she tried, did not get passed on to her daughters). She loved to shop and was always up for anything. Edith was a loving grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren when they visited their home in Florida.
Edith is survived by her husband, Louis Momchilovich, who lovingly cared for her during her final years struggling with Alzheimer’s disease, daughters Gayle Momchilovich (Don Erickson), Jan Momchilovich, Lynn Momchilovich (Jim Swanson) and Lori Momchilovich (Matthew Nooney), grandchildren Matthew Mickus, Lydia Swanson, Jessie Mickus and John Nooney, sisters Bernice Endres and Elayne Donnelly.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, 2107 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a service at 1:00 p.m. at Aycock Funeral Home Young & Prill Chapel, 6801 SE Federal Highway, Stuart, Florida. Burial will follow at Forrest Hills Memorial Park, 2001 SW Murphy Road, Palm City, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Treasure Coast Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
