He joined the construction crew building The Greenwich Hospital, stepping away on completion to become an independent contractor. In 1949 he married Dorothy Schmidt of Greenwich. They had two children, William L. Tischler, 1950, followed by Christine, 1951. He built the family home in King Merritt Acres where his son still resides. George developed Tischler Builders, Fine Residential Construction and built 26 homes in the area plus a commercial endeavor located at US 1, The Post Road, which was sold to Preferred Properties 10 years later.
In year 2000, George purchased a winter residence in Hobe Sound Florida near his daughter, not quite ready for retirement he joined his daughter, also in Real Estate, refurbishing properties for resale, for 6 seasons. Tischler, an avid hobbyist, had more interests than imaginable. Starting with flying, gardening, golfing, fishing , making beautiful furniture, Tischler was always on the move. His love of flying led him to earn certifications allowing him to hit the sky. During his flight training at Westchester County Airport, on his 2nd solo flight, the small Cessna plane lost engine power over New York's highways, consisting of power lines. ...Above, below, left and right. When asked what he thought at that point, he replied, ".You don't think, you act!!!”
He successfully landed the plane on the Sawmill Parkway in Westchester Ct. Instead of hanging up his hat, he continued on to build a custom aerobatic, double wing biplane. He was finally satisfied after winning first place in the annual OSHKOSH, custom built competition held in Wisconsin. After suffering a short but serious medical event, George returned to Florida, living with his daughter at Mariner Sands County Club. His grandson Nick signed on to move in and care for his grandpa. Enjoying the same temperament, they spent their time outdoors enjoying a new adventure daily. Sharing a love of sweets with her grandpa, granddaughter Tina supplied a box of candy everyday which rapidly turned into two. Candy was served with every meal. George quickly adapted to the weather and family.
Sadly, on Sunday, March 24, while returning from their daily journey, George looked up to sky and raised his arms high above him and entered the hereafter. One of his favorite sayings: “Travel light and move fast. Was fitting.
