Helen was born in Athens, Greece, and emigrated to the United States with her parents and sister at a young age. Throughout her long life, both Greek culture and her Greek Orthodox faith were central to her life.
After being educated at the University of Bridgeport, she loyally worked as a medical assistant and office manager for two surgeons until her retirement to Hobe Sound with her beloved husband Steve where she enjoyed an active life.
Helen was an instrumental and energetic member of the Greek Philoptochos Society of each church she faithfully attended. She served on the board of the Ladies of the Preserve Women's Club, was an officer of the Stuart Women's Club, and a valued member of the St. Lucie Power Squadron, serving honorably as both Secretary and a member of the Executive Committee. Helen enjoyed playing cards, cruises with friends and family, daily walks, neighborhood bocce, and going out to lunch.
Helen was an avid reader of newspapers and baker, renowned for her traditional Greek koulorakia and tiropita that will be missed. She was a loving and doting second mother to her nieces and nephew and took great pride in being a devoted grandmother to their children and the children and grandchildren of her late husband.
Helen will be remembered most for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity. She gave of herself selflessly with love and without reservation and stayed true to her principles.
Helen shared 49 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved Steve, who predeceased her. She is survived by her loving sister, Voula M. Vatis, nieces Chris Marie Vatis and Kimberly Curran, nephew T. George Vatis, their children, stepdaughter Theresa Chachakis, her children, and grandchild, along with daughter-in-law Neilann Chakis, wife of her late stepson Steve Chakis, their children, and grandchild.
