They met when he was a lifeguard at Jones Beach. After graduating from the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY in 1949, Hank served as a battalion commander in the merchant marines. He was, in many ways, a perfect example of an American self-made man, starting and running successful businesses in New York, Maryland, and Florida.
Hank and Jean were avid boaters, readers, and were "foodies" before it was a thing. He is predeceased by his daughter, Patty, and sister, Eileen Finzi. He is survived by Jean, his wfie; Marietta Swanson, his sister; and Frank Fern, his brother. He has many nieces, nephews, and loved ones that have looked up to him throughout their lives.
