

Born in Bessemer, Alabama, Captain Harris was a resident of Stuart, Florida.
He served on USS Saratoga and USS Lexington during World War II. He was Air Officer on USS Philippine Sea, Commanding Officer Photo Recon Squadron and the Naval Photographic Center, Washington DC. Captain Harris was designated Quarantine Zone Officer by General Maxwell Taylor, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His service in the Defense Intelligence Agency involved many highly classified operations including duty as Principle Intelligence Officer for the Son Tay Raid in Vietnam.
Captain Harris was an avid golfer, and was a member of Willoughby Golf Club. He was a member of Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria, VA for forty-six years, as well as a former member of The Martin County Golf and Country Club in Stuart, Florida.
Captain Harris enjoyed travelling, having lived in Ankara, Turkey, Honolulu, Hawaii, La Jolla, California, Alexandria, Virginia, as well as various cities in Florida.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Siewert, of Stuart, Florida; daughter, Jeanne Kidder, and her husband Captain John Kidder, USNR (Ret) of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Commander Christian Kidder, USN, Jaimee Kidder, Abby Kidder, Benjamin Kidder, Maliek Kidder, Kyrill Siewert, Alexander Siewert, , and Austin Ybarra, and his sister, Louise Miller, of Charleston, SC.
Captain Harris was predeceased by his wives, Barbara Baker Harris and Jean Harris.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 623 E Ocean Blvd., Stuart, FL with a reception to follow in the garden courtyard.
