John was a lifelong Hobe Sound resident. He was born on November 26, 1930 on the Hill Estate on Jupiter Island where his father worked as the estate caretaker. When his father went to get the midwife, two estates down, he counted over one hundred rabbits. There were more rabbits than people here at the time. John, in his youth, enjoyed fishing with his brother Oscar and stamp collecting with his father.
After high school, he joined the Air Force and traveled. However, in the end, he came back to Hobe Sound and married the love of his life, Marie Brodrick. They were married for 51 years before her passing in 2013. They had a daughter, Marian, who was adored by them both.
In the early 80’s, he and Marie opened a garden center. John enjoyed traveling to Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana where fly fishing and photography brought many happy memories. But John’s greatest passion in life was his woodworking. He made everything from bedroom sets, the whirly gigs that he sold at the garden center and gifts for friends and family that are treasured heirlooms.
John is incredibly missed by his daughter, cats Latigo Josephine and all who loved and knew him.
