Louis Anthony Castellano, 93, of Hobe Sound, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Born in 1927 at his family’s home in Newark, New Jersey, Louis was the son of the late Anthony Castellano and the late Eva Rosa Colesanti Castellano. He grew up in Newark and then East Orange, graduating from Clifford J. Scott High School.
Following his graduation in 1945, Louis enlisted in the U.S. Navy, at the recruiting station in New York, and served at the Tampa Shipyards in Florida. As a Seaman, he commissioned the repair ship the USS Cadmus.
After his service, Louis went to work for the American Can Company, where he was a foreman, and then for Canada Dry, where he was a salesman. In 1976, he purchased Brushes Plus, Inc., and became a small business owner in industrial supplies. He sold the business upon his retirement.
Louis married his beloved wife, Maryellen Morgan Castellano, in 1963. Together they would celebrate 53 years of marriage. Louis and Maryellen Castellano lived in Bloomfield, New Jersey, before moving to West Orange, where they lived for nearly 40 years. In 2007, they moved to Hobe Sound, Florida.
Louis was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Orange, where he served as an Usher and was Lead Usher. He also served on the Parish Council in various positions. After moving to Florida, Louis became a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Hobe Sound.
Together, Louis and Maryellen traveled extensively throughout the world, visiting Hong Kong and China, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, France, England, Ireland, Austria, and Germany.
Louis is survived by his loving children, Michele and Patrick McDermott of Stone Ridge, New York; Maureen Castellano and Andy Yu, of Delray Beach, Florida; Michael and Carmela (DJ) Castellano, of Summerville, South Carolina; and Mark and Karyn (Regula) Castellano, of Osprey, Florida; his beloved grandchildren, Ensign Garrett Yu (USN), of Norfolk, Virginia; Dylan McDermott, of Stone Ridge, New York; and Brandon Yu and Julia Yu, of Delray Beach, Florida; his dear brother-in-law, Dominic Roberti, of Lake Forest, Illinois, and dear sister-in-law, Carolyn Morgan, of Davis, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews and godchildren.
Louis was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maryellen Morgan Castellano, and his loving sisters, Marianne Zaccaria and Jacqueline Roberti.
A Memorial Mass also will be held for both Louis and Maryellen Morgan Castellano at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Benvenue Avenue, West Orange, New Jersey, on September 18, 2021 at 10:00 am. A graveside service will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
