Maria Natalina Romano Borzillo, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith. Born on December 10, 1932, in the picturesque village of Ponte, Italy, Maria's life journey was one of simplicity, strength and commitment.
Maria grew up on the family farm in Ponte, where she lovingly helped care for her seven younger siblings. Growing up in the war torn country side of Italy, her early years were marked by hard work and a deep sense of responsibility, traits that she carried with her throughout her life.
In her early adulthood, Maria married Antonio Borzillo, the love of her life and, as it happens, her neighbor from the time they were both infants. Together, they embarked on a new chapter, moving to Montevideo, Uruguay, where their first son, Cosmo, was born. Seeking greater opportunities for their family, Maria and Antonio later immigrated to the United States, settling in Norristown, Pennsylvania. It was here that their second son, David, was born, completing their family.
Maria's talents as a seamstress were both a livelihood and a testament to her meticulous nature. She worked tirelessly making uniforms for first responders, contributing to the well-being of her community with every stitch. She also enjoyed sewing at home, often making nightgowns for the women in her life. She was frugal and made sure her family’s wardrobe stayed in good repair.
She stood steadfastly by her husband Antonio as they pastored an Italian speaking church in Norristown. On Sundays, after service, you would often find church members gathered at their home for a homemade meal she had prepared in her basement kitchen. Maria also shared her beautiful voice singing hymns on their weekly radio program as she and Antonio spread the love of Christ to the Italian speaking community in the greater Philadelphia area. Maria and Antonio spent their retirement years in South Florida, where they enjoyed gardening, taking walks and occasionally picnicking on the beach with friends.
Maria’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to Cosmo and David, who both survive her, and a proud grandmother to her three cherished grandchildren, Abigail, Olivia and Luke. She expressed her love for her family by feeding them homemade pasta and other dishes she learned to make growing up on the family farm. She would often greet people by asking if they had eaten. The answer didn't really matter, you were getting fed regardless. She was the quintessential Italian Nonna.
Maria Natalina Romano Borzillo’s life was a testament to simple living and faithfulness to Jesus. Her memory will be held close in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness and cooking. She leaves behind a legacy of grace and a life well-lived, inspiring those who follow in her footsteps.
A visitation for Maria will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home Young & Prill Chapel, 6801 SE Federal Highway, Stuart, FL 34997.
