Tim grew up in Stuart, FL and graduated from Martin County High School in 1984. Despite financial obstacles during his youth, Tim always had a thirst for knowledge and was determined to seek higher education. He enrolled in the University of South Florida and later transferred to University of Central Florida to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering. Tim took a full course load and worked many jobs in his spare time to pay for all his tuition and college expenses. Tim graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCF in 1990 with a Computer Engineering degree.
At that point in his life, Tim’s interest in medicine piqued. He was accepted to the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1992. During his four years of medical school, Tim welcomed his daughter Gabriela in 1994 and later his son Timothy Jr. in 1995. Tim obtained his medical degree in 1996 from the University of Miami School of Medicine and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha in the top 10% of his class.
After graduation, Tim moved with his young family from Miami to Boston to pursue his internship and residency with Harvard Medical School at Massachusetts General Hospital. Once he completed his residency in dermatology, Tim pursued a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard Medical School.
Upon completion in 2001, the family moved to Avon, CT where Tim would eventually establish his private practice in Farmington, CT, Dermatology Surgical Associates, LLC. He practiced in the central Connecticut area for over 16 years where he performed over 15,000 Mohs surgical operations and over 20,000 surgical procedures. He was well regarded by his patients for his kind demeanor, comforting personality, and his immense knowledge of dermatology. He always made a point to personally call his patients after every surgery.
Professionally, Tim served on the Executive Committee for the Connecticut Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery Society, the Hartford County Medical Association, where he served as President, and the Connecticut State Medical Society, where he served as Secretary. In addition, he was an Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Yale School of Medicine where he volunteered his time teaching surgery to Yale Dermatology residents.
In his free time, Tim enjoyed playing racquetball with his friends and competing in several racquetball tournaments throughout the northeast. Tim was also active in his children’s extracurricular activities when they were young, serving as an assistant coach for several of their sports teams. Tim had a love and a sharp ear for music, he enjoyed playing guitar, dabbling in the ukulele, and, despite his kids’ wishes, singing.
A funeral service will be held at Aycock Funeral Home in Stuart, FL on Thursday, June 1st. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Tim’s life in Connecticut on June 6th at the Hartford Golf Club from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Another memorial service will take place in Florida at a later date.
The family has established a scholarship fund in Tim’s honor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Timothy K. Chartier, M.D. Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 10 Columbus Blvd, 8th Floor, Hartford, CT 06106.
Tim had often talked about how he wanted to be able to give a bright, young, determined, individual the means to afford higher education. Now, his desire to do so will be fulfilled.
