Albert Al John Vernol

Albert John Vernol, 70, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Vernol was born on April 28, 1943 in Walden, New York and was a son of the late Harry Leroy and Mabel (Scott) Vernol. Al served as a mechanic in the United States Air Force for four years. After his military service, Al worked as a mechanic for Grumman until his retirement in 1990. During that time, he worked on F-14 Tomcats, A-6E Intruders, and also on the prototype of the Lunar Module that later landed on the Moon. After moving to Virginia, he also worked as a mechanic for Eavers for several years. Al loved working on cars and watching racing. He loved to laugh and tell jokes and could always make you smile. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many who will greatly miss him.

Al is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara (Dohrenwend) Vernol, who he married on October 8, 1966.

In addition to his wife, Al is survived by a son, Alan James Vernol and his wife Jennifer of Cocoa, FL; two daughters, Tracy Lynn Vernol and Tammy Marie Vernol, both of Stuarts Draft; two grandchildren, Barbara Rosemarie Vernol and Alan James Vernol II; brother, Robert Vernol and wife Joan; two sisters, Jean Blackham and Arlene Moore and husband Gerry; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends and neighbors, Barbara and Hal Truslow and Jill and Bobby Bussard and their families. In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by a brother in law, George Blackham.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday September 17, 2013 at 11 am at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 until 8 PM at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
