LOWELL THOMAS HULSE, JR. -- December 7, 1955 – April 1, 2024, Stuarts Draft, VA (formerly Port Jervis and Rio, NY) Lowell Thomas “Tom” Hulse, Jr., age 68 of Stuarts Draft, VA, passed away suddenly the day after Easter, on Monday, April 1, 2024, while going about his everyday life near his longtime VA home. He was born on December 7, 1955 in Port Jervis, New York, the son of the late Lowell Thomas Hulse, Sr. and Patricia Anne Cortright Hulse. Lowell was a lifelong builder/contractor like his dad. He enjoyed working for 38-plus years at Campbell & Co. Homes, Stuarts Draft, with his co-workers and boss, who was also a good friend. Tom was a lover of nature, animals, and the down-to-earth life he shared with his beloved family, close friends, and neighbors. As a veteran who proudly served his nation in the United States Army as a young man, Tom was unwavering in his patriotism and was proud to have continued a long line of family military service. Tom was hard-working, strong, caring, kind, and deeply loved his family, nature and animals, being outdoors, and the simple joys found in ordinary days and activities, especially when shared with his family. He loved growing up in a large rural home with four sisters and a brother, sharing outdoor adventures, and enjoyed a lifelong love of Saint Bernards and other animals and pets, including chickens, roosters, and a menagerie of other small and large creatures. He had a huge, loving heart and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need of help. But in his free time, he enjoyed working with wood in his woodshop and going on Sunday rides with his family, especially through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Most of all he loved his family, his home and spending time together. He took great care of his historic VA home and land, even cutting the grass and feeding all of his pets on the morning that he suddenly died. In all of the challenges of life, Tom was a solid source of support and encouragement for those he loved and who loved him. He was also funny, and fun-loving, and was known for his decades of wearing a red polka-dotted hat, except when he was wearing his veteran hat on more formal occasions. Tom is survived by his wife Debra Jean Soules Hulse, with whom he was to celebrate 50-years of marriage this July; his son Lowell Thomas Hulse, III (Carol); grandchildren Lowell Thomas Hulse IV, Cody Hulse, Alexandra Hulse, and Galexi Hulse; great-granddaughter Paizleigh Hulse; sisters Sharon Hulse Siegel (Stanley), Patricia Hulse French (Mark), and brother Douglas Hulse (Denise); many nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and longtime friends, neighbors, and co-workers. He was predeceased by his daughter Brandy Eugenia Hulse of Staunton, VA, whose daughter Galexi is being raised by Tom and Debra, and two sisters Peggy Lynn Hulse Tyler and Laurie Lee Hulse. and two sisters Peggy Lynn Hulse Tyler and Laurie Lee Hulse. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held privately at a later time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes & Crematory of Stuarts Draft.
