Robert Eugene "Fuzzy" Benson

Born April 10, 1927 in New Hope, he was the son of the late Clyde William and Willie C. (Drawbone) Benson.

Mr. Benson was a charter member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Waynesboro and had been a faithful member for 60 years. In previous years, he had served as an elder of the church and was a leader of the youth group Pathfinders. Prior to his retirement in 1988, he worked as a welder with the former I.E. DuPont where he was employed for 45 years. Robert was a U.S. Veteran having served his country honorably during WWII. Fuzzy enjoyed spending time bird watching, fishing and wood working. He will be remembered by those who knew him as a devoted father, loving grandfather and friend to many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Benson on July 26, 2013; son, Clyde Benson; three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his loving children, Beverly “Babs” Benson of Staunton, Robert Preston “Robbie” Benson and wife, Lisa of Stuarts Draft and Brenda “Angel” Mitchie of Raphine; grandchildren, Bencie Byrd, Preston Terrell, Ronald Skorupa, Beth Benson, Omar Benson, Siheim Benson, R. Jason Benson, Heather Cash and Lemuel Thompson; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mabel Coffey, Theron Benson and Carlene Desper and husband, Merle; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, with Pastor Denny Grady officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Military honors will be provided graveside by the Staunton VFW Post 2216.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, November 3, 2014 at the funeral home.
