

He was born November 19, 1924 in Augusta County, a son of the late John D. and Mary Craig Martin.
Roy was a retired farmer and ordained minister.
He and his wife Ruth, were married for nearly 63 years, and were charter members of Greenmonte Fellowship Church of Stuarts Draft, where he served as pastor for 23 years.
Roy and Ruth traveled to Zambia in 2008 as part of a mission team from Greenmonte, an experience of deep impact on Roy.
Roy was a man of faith and trusted in the Lord. He loved his family, making numerous trips with Ruth across the country and around the world to visit their children and attend significant events in the lives of their grandchildren. He also appreciated the Blue Ridge Mountains and enjoyed many camping trips with his wife and family. Roy strongly believed in and supported Christian education, and served on the Board of Trustees at Eastern Mennonite University.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Yoder Martin, two sons, Kirk S. Martin and his wife Leah of Mexico, Eric D. Martin and his wife Sue of Oregon, a daughter, Marcia Ramsey and her husband David of Stuarts Draft, two brothers, Clinton Martin and his wife Esther of Stuarts Draft, J. Garland Martin and his wife Phyllis of Waynesboro, two sisters, Thelma Maust and her husband, Clayton of Harrisonburg, Mary Frances Campbell and her husband Ersel of Harrisonburg, seven grandchildren, Lindsay Martin, Jenna Martin Trinka, Daniel Martin, Trevor Martin, Tyler Martin, Kelly Brown, Erin Brown, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Following a private graveside service, a Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenmonte Fellowship with Pastors Bruce and Seth Hankee officiating.
The family will receive friends at their residence at Stuarts Draft Retirement Community, 71 Mountain Vista Drive.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to Grassroots Heroes International c/o Greenmonte Fellowship 1661 Cold Springs Road Stuarts Draft, Va 24477 or to Hospice of the Shenandoah, whose staff provided invaluable care and support over the past year as Roy lived gratefully and coped with terminal cancer.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
