

Born September 26, 1934 in Bath County, he was the son of the late Thomas Floyd and Mary (Douglas) McCoy.
Walter was a devoted man of the Lord who served as a deacon and trustee while living in Hampton, Va. He was a member of Pine Chapel Baptist Church in Hampton. Walter retired from the shipyard after 29 years of service. He enjoyed wood working and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Pitt; two sisters, Betty Cooke and Mary Durham; one brother, Cecil McCoy, Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Florence Botkin McCoy; two daughters, Donna Gundersen and husband, Steve of Gloucester, Va and Vickie Thompson and husband, Dale of Millboro, Va; two grandchildren, Amy Price of Smithfield, Va and Brandon Neel of IL; one step-grandson, Derek Gundersen of Gloucester, Va; two great-grandsons, Darrell Price of Smithfield, Va and Rylan Neel of IL; one great- granddaughter, Lexy Price of Smithfield, Va; two brothers, John McCoy and wife, Judy of Grottoes, Va and Frank McCoy and wife, Faye of Millboro, Va;as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, with the Rev. Dr. William Kopp officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Cecil McCoy, Jr., Randy Durham, Al Durham, Stuart McCoy, Ricky McCoy and Ray Livick.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the funeral home.
