

Beatrice Jean Sweeney, of Weston, Massachusetts, formerly of Ithaca, New York, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. She was born in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Stanley and Mildred Shoemaker. She was the beloved wife of the late Leo M. Sweeney. She was the sister of the late Lois Frenchko and Eloise Doud. She is survived by her daughter Paula Gleysteen and her husband Nicholas Gleysteen of Weston, Massachusetts, and her son John Sweeney and his wife Stacey Sweeney, of Vienna, Virginia. She is also survived by her four grandsons, Christopher M. Gleysteen of Houston, Texas, Tyler K. Gleysteen of Nashua, New Hampshire, Ian Sweeney and Connor Sweeney, of Vienna, Virginia. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, E. Firmina Wilkins of Elmira, New York, and by many nephews and nieces. She attended Southside High School in Elmira, New York. After meeting her husband after the war, they moved to Ithaca, New York for her husband to attend Ithaca College. She enjoyed tennis and golf and was a member of the Newman Golf Course. She was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca and attended St. Julia’s Church, while living in Weston, Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 25th, at noon at Saint Julia’s Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston, Massachusetts. Interment will be at a private ceremony at Peter and Paul Cemetery in Elmira, New York.
