Barbara Helene (Lewis) Taskovics, 83, of Sudbury, died peacefully September 17, 2023, of cardiac and lung complications following a long challenge with persistent cardiac issues and lung cancer. She is survived by her Husband of 60 years, Marton Taskovics, and their two children – Steven Taskovics and wife Heather of Framingham, MA: Frank Taskovics and wife Teresa of East Moline Ill. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Anna of Framingham, MA and Joshua, Jared, and Julia of East Moline, Ill.
Born in Concord, MA in 1940 to George Lewis of Nantucket, MA and Anna (Sherman) Lewis of Wayland, MA, Barbara grew up in Sudbury, MA. She attended Lincoln-Sudbury Regional, graduating in 1958 as part of the second class to graduate from that school.
A lifetime photographer working with her father, Barbara captured many of the local school and town events, one of the most significant being the 1955 fire of the Wayside Inn in Sudbury. Her skills as a photographer lead to a Graphics Arts position at Raytheon in Wayland, MA. in the early 1960s and left that position to raise her two sons with Marton in Billerica, MA.
The family returned to Sudbury in 1972, building their home on Blueberry Hill Lane to be close to family. Barbara returned to work in the late 1990’s working at a variety of local pharmacies including both the Wayland and Sudbury CVS where she retired in the mid-2000’s.
Though Barbara always was a photographer throughout her life, digital photography became her passion as she focused on landscapes, flowers, and wildlife -birds and butterflys in particular- and usually with all three subjects combined. She had a particular gift for composition, color, and lighting and searched for her subjects within the wild areas of the Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT), Assabet River Refuge, and the Wayside Inn area. Many of her photographs were displayed at events hosted by the SVT and the Sudbury Historical Society with some being included in local publications and calendars. Barbara later extended her talents to include painting and then poetry to accompany her art and photography which often were included in Christmas and birthday cards – all of which were displayed in the homes of family and friends long after those events had passed.
