Christine Barnes, a lifelong Wellesley resident, died peacefully in her sleep at Marion Morse Health Care Center where she resided after suffering a stroke last December. She was the daughter of Edith (Butman) and Irving Taylor Barnes.
During World War II, Christine began what would be a more than 40 year relationship with Newton Wellesley Hospital first as a volunteer and then as an employee in the mail room and at the reception desk. Her welcoming presence was remembered fondly by many at the hospital long after her retirement .
A devout lover of birds and wildflowers, she was an active participant in the Friendship Circle of the Wellesley Friendly Aid and in the classes of Wellesley Life Time Learning.
Christine was a beloved member of the Wellesley Congregational (Village) Church where she shared her life: volunteering weekly in the church office and joining the activities of the Village Churchwomen.
Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery at 2 PM Monday, July 6, followed by a 3 P.M. Memorial Service and reception at Village Church, 2 Central Street, Wellesley.
In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to Wellesley Congregational Church.
