Davan Roy Chung (affectionately known as Daddy Roy), went home to glory on April 24, 2026. He was born on November 9, 1942 in Golden Spring St. Andrew, Jamaica to the late Petronell Francis and Vincent Chung.
Davan was the first of 14 children born to Petronell Francis. He attended Golden Spring Basic School, Manning Hill Primary School and Cavilars Primary School. After his education he began working in construction for TODD Construction building luxury homes in Kingston, Jamaica.
He later met and married the late Mavis Maria Chung, together they had 4 children and moved to Mt. Olive, St. Andrew where they raised their 4 children.
In 1990, Davan immigrated to the United States to join his late wife and children. Upon arriving he began working for Boston Chicken Company. But his love for construction remained so 2 years later he took a new job with Massachusetts Laborers Union, where he worked construction for many years until his retirement.
When Davan was not working he enjoyed tending to his garden where he grew tomatoes, calaloo and hot peppers for many years. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and always wanted to go on a road trip to visit family for any celebration big or small. He was always known for his photographic memory and keen sense of direction, after just one drive he would remember the exact directions on how to get anywhere.
In his retirement he enjoyed going for coffee and running errands with his best friends and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for supporting his family, his famous goat soup and enjoying the warm days on the steps in front of his house.
Davan was preceded by his parents, Petronell Francis and Vincent Chung, his brother Henry Francis, sister Janet (Netty) Francis-Stewart and his wife, Mavis Chung. He leaves behind four children, Argella Morton, Lloydton Ximines (Margo Ximines), Almarie Dawkins (Patrick Dawkins) and Celanie Simpson (Paul Simpson); Six grandchildren, Omarr Ximines, Ashley Denham (Adeewah Denham), Tyler Ximines, Matthew Morton, Kala Dawkins and Jalen Simpson; and two great-grandchildren Chriselle Denham & Nori; 10 siblings, Blossom Francis, Hazel Vassel, Owen Francis, Noel Francis, Johnny Francis, Densel Francis, Norval Francis, Evelyn Francis, Muffet Francis, Maureen Francis and Beverly Banning (Edward Manning); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
