She attended school at Waltham High School and Boston University where she received her MA in 1955. She was a lifelong learner, eagerly taking classes most summers about music, pedagogy, and the latest research about child development and education.
Music was a passion throughout her life – beginning with piano lessons, which led her to share her talents in myriad ways well into her 80’s as music teacher, accompanist, organist, choir director, and the leader of the Farmer Family Band. She was always willing to step into leadership roles, co-founding the Sudbury Savoyards (musical director for over 20 years), creating afterschool program Adventures in Music, organizing casual choirs to sing at nursing homes, and wherever she saw an opportunity to share her love of music.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Kenneth Dale Farmer and her brother Robert Beckett.
Elizabeth is survived by her cherished children Donald Stuart Farmer of Tewksbury, MA, Victoria (Vicki) E. Farmer of Seattle, WA, Dale A. Farmer of Sudbury, MA, Wesley D. Farmer of Edmonds, WA, R. Dana Farmer of Marlborough, MA, and grandchildren April, Alex, Garrett, Erinn, Samantha, Stephanie and Sophia.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Duckett Funeral Home of J.S. Waterman & Sons, 656 Boston Post Rd, Sudbury, MA. The Worship Service in her memory will be held on January 27th at 10:30 AM at the Sudbury United Methodist Church, 251 Old Sudbury Rd, Sudbury, followed by a coffee hour.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elizabeth’s memory to The Sudbury Savoyards, Sudbury United Methodist Church music program, or another organization that promotes music education.
