

Born in Passaic, NJ, on July 19, 1932, the son of the late Max and Lilly (Loeliger) Steudel, Mr. Steudel was raised in Passaic and Newfoundland, NJ. He lived in Sudbury, MA for 46 years while working for Raytheon as a systems engineer. He had a BSEE degree from Rutgers University and a MSEE from Northeastern University. He was a member of the Rutgers crew and the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He and his wife moved to Cape Cod in 2002 where he enjoyed boating, golf, tennis, gardening and travel.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Karen Kwass and her husband Jeff of Lexington, MA, Mark Steudel and his wife Maureen of Westborough, MA and Karl Steudel and his girlfriend Heidi Foubare of Burbank, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Daniel and Sophie Kwass and Nicholas, Kristen, Sarah, and Matthew Steudel as well as his brother Bud and wife Mona of Gainesville, FL.
He loved his work as a lead engineer in phased array radar system engineering at Raytheon where he served on a number of government study panels, held six radar patents and won a number of author’s awards for papers. He was a Fellow of the IEEE and the first Raytheon recipient of the IEEE Dennis J. Picard Medal for Excellence in Technology award. This award enabled Fritz to establish an engineering scholarship in his name at Rutgers in gratitude for his having a 4 and ½ year scholarship there and to help students avoid working long hours for extra Income as he had to. He was also selected as a Distinguished Alumni by Rutgers.
Calling hours will be on Monday 12/16 from 4 – 7pm at the Duckett-Waterman Funeral Home at 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, 12/17 at 11 am at the Memorial Congregational Church at 26 Concord Road, Sudbury, MA followed by a lunch reception in the church parish hall. There will be a private burial for the family.
