Born in East Moline, Illinois, to William and Ena (Crainean), Gladys began her career as an English teacher and later became a homemaker after the adoption of her two children. She greatly enjoyed art and frequently visited local museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the deCordova Museum in Lincoln, and the Danforth Museum in Framingham. She also loved the theater and often attended performances at the Wang Theatre in Boston. Her daughter Julia enjoyed accompanying her to both museums and performances, especially their annual tradition of seeing The Nutcracker each Christmas.
Gladys was very devoted to her church, St. John Lutheran Church of Sudbury. She had many friends there and enjoyed cooking and serving meals during Senior Luncheons.
She is survived by her loving children, Julia Puishys and her husband Bill of Brookfield, and her son Matt of Framingham; her granddaughters Emma and Moon (children of Julia and Bill); her siblings Dorothy (Mike) Roche of Baraboo, Wisconsin; Patricia Nitz of Haworth, Oklahoma; Stan (Pam) Goodhart of Silvis, Illinois; and Sally Schultz of Superior, Wisconsin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles; her parents; her baby sister Sally; and her brothers Bill and Bob Goodhart.
Services will be private, however a dual celebration of life will be held in the spring for both Charles (who passed away on 10/19/25) and Gladys.
