

John S. MacKinnon, Jr. a native of Sudbury, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at Tuft’s New England Medical Center in Boston following an illness of several weeks. He was 55 and the husband of Laurel L (Wigandt) MacKinnon. Born in Framingham December 8, 1956, he was the son of Janice T. (Rice) MacKinnon of Sudbury and the late John “Jack” MacKinnon. John graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School with the Class of 1975 and went on to attend the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He continued to work in his community for many years in as a co-owner of his family operated business, MacKinnon's Liquors. John was married for thirty years and had four children who attended and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School. He enjoyed spending time with his family, vacationing in Disney spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee. He always cherished his time growing up on Pokonoket Road and playing in a childhood band. John was the true definition of a “family first” man, to his wife and children. John loved to fish with his boys and was a master of New England Sports. His family always received daily text messages about trades and score updates. He was an animal lover who cherished his dog Izzy; pet bird; parrot, Chico; cat, Lily; and his fish; all of which meant the world to him. John would be the first one to make sure his neighbors were cleared out during a storm and was always there whenever anyone needed a helping hand. Truly a genuine and loving soul, John will be deeply missed. In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves his children: Lindsay S., John S., III, Christopher M. and Trevor J., all of Sudbury. He also leaves his siblings: Susan Hansen of Ill; Michael S. MacKinnon and his wife, Janice, of Framingham; Patrice Evangelous and her husband, Tom, of Marlboro; and Jane Lirette and her husband, Paul, of Northborough. He was the son in law Claire Wigandt and brother in law of Peter and Lorraine Wigandt, all of Sudbury. A funeral mass will be celebrated Sat.,March 31, at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Rd., Sudbury, followed by interment in New Town Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Duckett-J.S.Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Rd., Rt.20, Sudbury. Rather than flowers, the family suggests that donations in memory of John be made to the John S. MacKinnon, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Middlesex Savings bank, 454 Boston Post Rd., Sudbury, MA 01776.
