
He was born May 12, 1931 in John Day, Oregon, the son of Harry and Ethel (Simmons) Farmer, and grew up in eastern Washington and Idaho. Ken served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, then went back the University of Idaho to learn the dairy business. He met his wife at a dance, and followed her back to Massachusetts to be married. He worked in the construction industry and was a resident of Sudbury, MA for nearly 60 years.
Ken walked through life with a smile and a story for everyone he met. He was devoted to his family, always keeping them foremost in his thoughts and actions. Throughout his adult life, he was an avid volunteer with the Boy Scouts, Rotary Club, and at the Sudbury United Methodist Church, among others. He was an avid music lover, playing trombone in The Suburbanaires and in the orchestra pit for the Sudbury Savoyards. When he wasn’t playing or listening to music, he was dancing.
Ken is survived by wife Betty (Beckett) Farmer; children Stuart Farmer of Tewksbury, Vicki Farmer of Seattle, WA, Dale Farmer of Sudbury, Wesley Farmer of Edmonds, WA, Dana Farmer of Marlborough, and sister Beverly Allenbaugh of Ellensburg, WA. He also leaves seven adored grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Sudbury United Methodist Church, 251 Old Sudbury Road, Sudbury.
Burial at New Town Cemetery in Sudbury will be private.
