
Philip Felleman of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Sudbury, suddenly, November 2, 2014, age 85. Devoted father of John Felleman and his wife Lisa of Belmont, CA; Susan Felleman and her husband Peter Chametzky, of Columbia, SC; and David Felleman and his wife Karen, of Medway, MA. Loving grandfather of Jessica, Eric, Daniel, Matthew, and Sarah Felleman, and Benjamin and Hallie Chametzky. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Sharaf Felleman.
Philip was a lover of science, nature, birds, music and family. A systems engineer and aerospace innovator, he was born in New York City and educated at Stuyvesant High School. After U.S. Naval service, he studied mathematics at Syracuse University and at MIT. He spent his entire professional career of 40 years (1954 - 1993) at the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory (later Charles Stark Draper Lab). There he made key contributions to the development of airborne fire control systems and several major NASA space programs, including the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. For his contributions to Draper Lab's support of the NASA Digital Fly-By-Wire Program he was inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame in 2010.
Burial will be private. A memorial visitation will be held at Duckett Funeral Home of J.S. Waterman, 656 Boston Post Rd., Sudbury, MA, on Sunday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m. to be followed by closing remarks at 3 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
