He was the beloved father of Kate of Herrin, Illinois and Julia, her husband Steve and their daughter Jupiter of Fulton, NY. He was their active anchor, advocate, and advisor; always on their teams ready to listen and help. He also was the much-loved brother of Peggy St.Clair, her husband John Fitzgerald and their daughters and Scott St.Clair and his sons. Uncle Tom’s sincere interest in their lives and good humor will be missed.
Tom graduated from Belmont Hill School and Tufts University. He went on to own Bergeron Box Company and ended his career as a highly regarded Grantmaking Program Director of the Amelia Peabody Foundation. As such he worked throughout Massachusetts to develop, expand, and enrich youth service programing in non-profits. He helped leaders of organizations to find ways to better understand their constituents by developing data sources. He was sought after as a reliable source of information about how other programs were handling specific issues. And, he inspired leaders to offer wider and wider ranges of services to their youth.
Tom grew up in a golfing family and maintained a love for the sport throughout his life. He enjoyed many rounds at Brae Burn Country Club and Eastward Ho! and played in Scotland and Ireland. He was especially happy with a glass of single malt scotch in his hand sharing stories. Feel free to raise a glass in his memory.
As his family, we would like to pay tribute to the teams of doctors at Dana Farber, the Brigham, and Massachusetts Eye and Ear who worked so diligently and with such care to give Tom many extra years with us, and to others who stepped up to support him. We salute and deeply thank each of them.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.duckett-waterman.com for the St.Clair family.
