battle with pancreatic cancer. His wife of 46 years and partner in all
things, Donna Hamilton Kelleher, was with him as he passed peacefully at home.
His children, Walter Jr., Michael, Steven, Kathleen and David are all following
Kelleher tradition in being quietly heartbroken and outwardly irreverent in
their father's honor. Daughters-in-law Michele, Paula and Amy, along with
son-in-law David will try their best to contain them.
Walter was also known as Papa and loved his seven wonderful grandchildren;
Jessalyn, Michael Jr., Caitlyn, Shannon, Sofia, Lauren and Kevin. He wishes
them love, happiness and success in all things they pursue in life or they
will have to answer to Papa later on.
An Irish boy from Dorchester Massachusetts, Walter was one of the many
children of George and Florence Kelleher: Brother to George Jr. and his wife
Joan, his late brother Edward and his wife Barbara, Robert and his wife
Jean, John and his wife Janet, Patrick and partner Mary Bernadette, his
sister Mary and her husband Paul, and William and his wife Lynn - along with
his wife's sister Mary Jo and her husband Bill plus all of his numerous
nieces and nephews, he says good-bye for now to all of them.
Some may remember Walter from his days of playing in local bands in the
early sixties, others as a consummate salesperson or executive at Zayre,
Lechmere, or American Home Video....
....Most will simply remember him as a caring and loving friend.
A true entrepreneurial spirit, Walter accomplished whatever he set his mind
to.
He eventually decided that he would much rather work for himself as a
manufacturer's representative and, later on, work side-by-side with his wife
Donna in founding Next Generation Children's Centers. As one of the top 40
for-profit child care operators in North America, NGCC is a legacy that he
was proud to be a part of. Knowing he was helping his own family, along with
thousands of other parents in Massachusetts, care for and educate their
children in today's busy world gave him great personal joy.
The family will be celebrating Walter's life with a fuuneral mass at Our
Lady of Fatima Church in Sudbury at 160 Concord Road, Sudbury at 12 o'clock
noon Saturday, August 9th. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited
to attend. It would have been Walter's 72nd birthday - but he really didn't
want to be that old. There will be no wake, because he didn't like them, and
he is being cremated so he can stick around the house a little longer.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to The Wounded
Warrior Project, https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/default.aspx?tsid=66because all veterans need our help, or you can show your
support in the fight against pancreatic cancer by donating to or walking in
the Purple Stride Walk in Boston on August 24th.http://purplestride.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1105835
