Bill was born in South Boston in 1940. He was a draftsman with Raytheon Corporation in Sudbury for 47 years. He was also a professional drummer for 60 plus years, a caring and loving father to his 5 children and their spouses, and an adoring grandfather to his 11 grandchildren and his new great grandson.
Bill spent his young adult years raising his kids in Stoughton, attending all of their sporting and music events, and supporting them in all that they did. He was a welcome sight to all and was greeted with a strong handshake or a hug by everyone who saw him. Mr. Kane was always “in the house”!
In his spare time he enjoyed golfing and sharing his musical talents. Though he only golfed for “fun”, his musical talents were second to none. Bill was one of the “best in Boston”. He was called on to play for hundreds of concerts, recitals, parades, musicals, and shows in many venues in the South Shore and Boston area. A few of his favorite productions were “West Side Story”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “The King and I” and “Promises Promises”.
Two of his most visited venues in his music career were the Chateau Deville in Randolph and the Monticello Theater Restaurant in Framingham. There he played for such celebrities as Tony Bennett, Milton Berle, Joan Rivers, Florence Henderson, Bob Newhart, Perry Como, George Burns, Engelbert Humperdinck and the list goes on. He was also called on for many Big Band gigs including the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and even the Lawrence Welk Orchestra. Bill was our legend in the music world.
Bill loved life and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He cherished traditions, and was always up for a “happening” or a “hang”. Being surrounded by the people he loved was his favorite pastime and he was grateful for every memory. He also enjoyed his special time with his life partner and friend Mary Carroll of Framingham, and he was so grateful for his “village”. He also loved walking Castle Island and found great joy in reading.
He leaves Mary Carroll, his loving partner of many years. He is survived by the mother of his children, Barbara Kane of Stoughton, his daughter Susan Catalano and her husband Jim of Raynham, his daughter Janice Taylor and Dan Diogo of Raynham, his three sons Bill Kane and his wife Victoria of Dover, Mike Kane and his wife Jeanetta of Duxbury, and Chris Kane of Dublin Ireland. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Matt and Emily Catalano, Courtney Taylor and her husband Kevin and their son, Parker, Kyle Taylor and his wife Savannah, Ryan and Addison Kane, Harrison and Meredith Kane, and Milo, Cass and Wyatt Kane. He had a great love for his family and will be greatly missed by all.
