

Eduardo S. Paderon, 78, of New City, NY passed away peacefully on April 10, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Ed was a devoted husband of 55 years to Hermosa (Paman) Paderon. He was a gentle and patient father to his daughters, Maria Kofsky and Angela Darling, and the proud father-in-law of Alan Kofsky and Robert Darling. His grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Darling and Celvy and CeeCee Kofsky were his pride and joy.
Ed was born on Feb. 14, 1939 in Manila, Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcos and Mercedes (San Juan) Paderon, and brothers, Conrado, Arnoldo, and Pedro, and sisters, Victoria (Marzona), Caridad (Bagalay), and Mercedes (Abaoag). He is survived by brothers, Rosauro, Marcos Jr., and sisters, Rosa (Acierto), Aurora (Delizo), and many nephews, nieces, and cousins of the Paderon clan.
Eduardo came to the United States as a Fulbright scholar in 1964 from the Philippines and received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Philosophy and M.B.A. from Fordham University. He was an Emeritus Professor of Philosophy and Business Administration. Prior to his retirement in 2005, he was Provost of Georgian Court University, Lakewood, NJ where among his many accomplishments, he advocated and initiated the change of status of Georgian Court College to University and strongly supported distance learning and degree completion programs. Before his appointment at Georgian Court University, he served as Provost of the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, TX where he also provided leadership to transition its status from college to university. He developed doctoral programs, started a college in China, launched a Virtual University, and expanded its international programs, including exchange programs with Philippine colleges and universities.
Ed served in various capacities as faculty and administrator in several institutions including Fordham University, Manhattan College, St Joseph Seminary, and Iona College. At Iona College, New Rochelle, NY he was Associate Dean of the Hagan School of Business and directed the International Institute for Executive Management and designed a special MBA program for Russian students from Siberia and taught the program in Moscow.
Throughout his professional career, he was very active in the field of higher education, especially in the areas of university administration, faculty, and curriculum development. He served for many years on the Chief Academic Officers Task Force of the Washington-based Council of Independent Colleges and held the chair of the Task Force in 2004-2005 for which he received CIC honor and recognition. He most recently served as a Program Review Report reviewer for two institutions, one in Pennsylvania and the other in Puerto Rico.
In 1990 Eduardo was appointed to the endowed Hilton Chair in Business Ethics at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, CA. He presented many papers at many national conferences around the country, as well as the University of Cambridge and University of Oxford in England, and the University of Siena in Italy. He developed and delivered ethics training for various organizations, including the law enforcement and county government agencies of Rockland County, NY. His writings and scholarly activities focus on business ethics and cross-cultural value studies.
Ed was very active in Filipino-American organizations in New York, New Jersey and Texas. He helped establish the first Filipino Association of Rockland County in the 1970s and served as its second president. Throughout the years, he continued to foster the growth of his community and provided mentorship and support to those who were planting new roots in the United States.
As much as he accomplished in his professional life, his real passion was service to the Church as a devout Catholic. He was an active member and Trustee of St. Augustine Parish, New City, NY. He was also an active member of the BLD Filipino Charismatic Group. Ed would readily volunteer his time, knowledge, and experience to spread God’s message of faith, hope and love.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6-9PM and on Tuesday, April 18 from 2-4PM & 6-9PM at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59 in Suffern, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 19 at 10AM, St. Augustine Parish, New City, NY. Immediately following the Mass, Eduardo will be laid to rest at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice or to the Dr. Eduardo S.
