Helen Ann Viccica, a resident of Norwood, NJ (formerly of Suffern, NY), passed away on April 28, 2025. She was 90 years old. Helen was born on November 5, 1934, in New York City, NY to the late Ralph and Domenica (Mae) Siniscalchi.
Helen was strong, caring, and devoted to her family. She always taught the importance of standing up for your ideals, respecting others, and living life fully with a great sense of humor. There were many late-night discussions with her children, usually accompanied by a cup of tea, toast and jelly, on a variety of topics. She encouraged her children to be independent, treat people with respect, and taught them to be fair and honest.
Helen, and her husband, Chick (Carmine) moved from the Bronx to Suffern in 1964. With a mortgage and the cost of raising two children, money was tight, so Helen sewed her own stylish clothing, Halloween costumes, and whatever else was needed by family and friends. The whir of her sewing machine would often be heard in the wee hours of the morning – her most creative time of the day.
She loved the Spring with its bright and colorful flowers many of which she planted in her garden to beautify her home. She made the Holidays a special time for all of us and always cooked the best Italian dinners, sharing family recipes passed down through generations.
Quick to volunteer as the class mother or President of the Suffern High School PTA, she seemed to always be in school talking with her children’s principals, teachers and friends - often to their chagrin. But even then, and throughout her entire life, they never tired of hearing from everyone she met, what a wonderful and funny person their mom was.
Helen and Chick created a loving home for her entire family where support, encouragement, pride, and especially love lived.
Home was wherever she was. We miss her dearly.
