on January 22, 1935 in the Bronx, NY to Michael Bracco and Hilda Sgroia. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.
She was predeceased by her husband Salvatore Sansone, her brother William Bracco, and her sister-in-
law Louise. She is survived by her three children, James Sansone of Suffern, NY, Joanne and Dennis Verboys of Highland Mills, NY, and John and Jennifer Sansone of Warwick, NY; her beloved grandchildren Kathryn Verboys, Caroline and Michael Kelly, and Nicholas Verboys; Matthew, Hannah, and Brian Sansone;
sister-in-law Palma Vasti of Nanuet, NY; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
She worked alongside her mother as owner/operator of their own millinery shop on White Plains Avenue in the Bronx. She met the love of her life at the age of sixteen and was inseparable with her husband Salvatore for 64 years. Joan learned to sew, crotchet, and knit at an early age; and loved creating clothes, sweaters, hats, and blankets for her children and friends. She was also an avid painter but above all she loved to cook and bake for everyone. She was a wonderful storyteller with many of her stories starting with the phrase “we must be…”. Joan was a caring and giving person, and known most affectionately as “Nanny Joan”. Spending time at their beach house on Long Beach Island, appropriately named Seabreeze, is where you could find them making memories. She worked in the billing department of Dr. Carmine Caponigro, oral surgeon in Suffern, NY, where she met many lifelong friends through the practice.
