John Rostawanik, a retired biology teacher, from Sloatsburg NY died suddenly on Thursday February 24, 2011. Born on October 25, 1948 in Staten Island NY to Mary and the late John Rostawanik, he graduated from Richmond College with a masters degree in Science Education. He went on to teach Biology at Woodlands High School for 35 years where he coached hockey for 7 years. He was married to Angelita Rostawanik for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, his 4 children and their spouses Norma Fennell (John), Stephanie Philbin (Timothy), John Rostawanik (Jessica), and Jessica Rice (Russell), as well as his brothers Robert and Steven and sisters in law Gail and Sharon, his mother Mary Fitzpatrick and 8 grandchildren. He was a dedicated teacher who won the American Dreamer Award, was twice named to Who's Who Among American Teachers, and also the Teacher of the Year at Woodlands in 2003. He was an avid Rangers fan. He helped coach the 1992 Suffern Hockey Team to the state Championship. He also had a love for softball and helped coach the Yearlings Softball team.
